UK's players act like they don't even want to be playing. If they don't care neither do I.
I just don't understand. Zero hustle tonight or emotion. Up two 35-33 but I don't expect a win. K State is much more engaged.
Posted by Trey Ball (Member # 332) on 03-21-2014, 11:32 PM:
Randle may be the most disinterested followed by Andrew Harrison.

Really? You watching the same game that I am?
Posted by Trey Ball (Member # 332) on 03-21-2014, 11:52 PM:
Yes. Randle has picked it up since I posted this. Much more active finally. First half was awful and beginning of this half.

Andrew Harrison has to have 5 TO's.

Got to let the game unfold, before you give up on a player

Hell I've given up on the whole team. they will probably win by a point or two but they don't want to even be on the floor. Go pro everyone.
Posted by PaulCat (Member # 513) on 03-22-2014, 12:23 AM:
Wow. Did we lose or something???
Posted by Bama Cat (Member # 153) on 03-22-2014, 12:24 AM:
The four freshmen managed to squeeze thru but they definitely tore their reputations all to hell by the way they played. Crappy passes and standing around with the ball and thinking o one would try to take it away. Standing with the ball and letting the ref call a jump ball and give it to the other team. We will lose by 20 points Sunday if they don't find a wrecker to pull their heads out of their asses. Blame it on those ugly green shoes.

Don't forget that they outscored their opponents.
Posted by AshTuckyUKfan (Member # 3065) on 03-22-2014, 12:34 AM:
They were lazy most of the game, K-State just wasn't as good as advertised, shouldn't have been a nine seed.

We had a few lapses in the game but overall I thought we played a solid game tonight!

Any time you have a player going for 19 points and 15 rebounds it sure helps. Young on the other hand has to find his shooting touch or we aren't going to win many games from this point on.
Posted by m hamilton (Member # 127) on 03-22-2014, 12:42 AM:
Young took more shots than anyone else on the team! We need him to go for 20+ on Sunday!
Posted by Trey Ball (Member # 332) on 03-22-2014, 12:45 AM:
JMO, but I'm not sure that I have seen them play a worse game this year. They just happened to play an opponent who played "worser" IMO. LOL.
They better bring a ton of intensity on Sunday or they are going to get blown out of that Scott Trade Center because that place will be packed with Shocker fans and practically be like a home court for them.

Wichita only scored 64 points against a very bad Cal-Poly team tonight!
Posted by Trey Ball (Member # 332) on 03-22-2014, 12:50 AM:
And they are going to be JACKED up to play UK and will bring a ton of intensity. Right, wrong, or indifferent they will play this game like UK is a #1 seed and they are a #16 seed.
UK will have to play their best game of the season IMO to just have a chance to steal a win in the last two minutes of the game.
UK can't miss another 12 layups/dunks like they did tonight and come away with a win.

A big key for us will be staying out of foul trouble.
But as I've said before, I believe our season will end due to poor free throw shooting.

What I saw tonight is a team that did what it took to win.
If we keep doing that we will be fine.

Randall plays lazy defense. He is much more aggressive on the offensive boards than when playing defense.
If I am Wichita State I let Randall, Poythress and Young shoot threes all night.
Hate to admit it but I think Wichita State beats us by double digits on Sunday.

Three of the #1 seeds win by 12 points or less and we're griping over a victory against a team that is no slouch. I don't get it.

The level of just doing what it takes to win has climbed to a much higher level. When you play a game someone will score points and get rebounds. That doesn't make him a super star. He just happen to be the one who got them. Here we are at 30+ games and Cal has to take Andrew out of the game to tell him what to do. Definitely not an NBA player. Stand there with the bal and let the defense tie him up for a jump ball. Randle took almost the whole first half to score his first basket. He couldn't have been very active or he would have more points in the half. Why has this team killed their shooting accuracy by missing so many 1 foot shots? Not many finishers on this team. I just don't think this group of freshmen are ready to play with grown men. They played like they were still in high school last night and I'm afraid there will be some crying Sunday night. All we can hope for is they wake up and realize where they are. But I guess they could be like Duke and a few others who have finished the season and went home.

I am happy with the win but felt their effort was less than stellar. What is Julius Randle doing jacking up three point shots???? And James Young, he was a no show again last night, taking 13 shots to get 7 points and playing zero defense. I though Randle's play in the second half was up to par and that Aaron Harrison had a good game along with Willie. We have to play much better than last night to win against Wichita State but I honestly think we can beat them and move on to the sweet sixteen.

They are 18 yr old prima donnas, and I mean that in a good way, who were looking ahead to Sunday. They can't help it. Was some of the play iffy? You betcha. But we won and moved on. I expect a much greater effort Sunday.
I won't complain until the game is lost and then mostly toward the refs
Sunday against WSU will be a defensive battle, and WCS will be the key to our success.
Go Cats

Glad you mentioned the refs. I was not very satisfied with a lot of their calls. I won't elaborate.

What I see is Wichita st. is a team we are a bunch of aau. players.
Posted by Bama Cat (Member # 153) on 03-22-2014, 12:03 PM:
I can't say that these guys haven't tried to play together because they have, at times. Our half court game completely sucks. This pattern we run is almost as Tubbys old half court offense. It's either that or they try to drive it and get it stolen. We have made a few threes in the last couple games but I think the defense is still clogging the lane on us hoping they can outscore us. The alley oop is almost non existent anymore. I feel that Andrew is the poorest PG we have had here under Cal. He is either hit or miss on his plays and he has not progressed like Teague did during his year.

I'm sure Wichita St is pumped to play
UK, also their first real opponent all year. But I'm sure UK is hyped big time, to play a team that is undefeated, they're the underdogs and have nothing to lose...the media has already marked Wichita St on to the next round. If they cannot get hyped for this game then I hope each and everyone is gone next year.

Ash who in the world in the Nba would take these kids right now? Even Randle will be in d- league 2 years , he has no jump shot, short arms, and don't post at his size he would be a 3 man in NBA.
Posted by AshTuckyUKfan (Member # 3065) on 03-22-2014, 12:29 PM:
That was not my point
Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 03-22-2014, 12:29 PM:
Green, couldn't agree with you more.
The NBA power forwards would give Randle a tough time as they are bigger stronger and do have longer arms than Randle which will make it hard for him inside and he has no outside shot.
Who can use a small forward of shooting guard like Young who is a sub 40% shooter from the field and only a 33% shooter from the 3 point line against college players and needs a ton of work on his defense.
I think WCS probably has the best chance as he is a good rim protector and rebounds. The NBA is in need of players like WCS and he would have a good chance to make it as he has room for improvement.
The Harrison twins need more seasoning and are not ready at this point to even think about the NBA.
Poythress has the body and physical talent but needs to get his mind right and a "boat" load of confidence. He probably would have thrived more in a different system like Vandy's where he would have been more of the go to guy. imo
Posted by AshTuckyUKfan (Member # 3065) on 03-22-2014, 12:33 PM:
My point wasn't that I think they should all go to the NBA, my point was that if they cannot get hyped for he game tomorrow then they have no business playing for UK...although I do not expect anything like that. I expect to see them work hard and hustle the whole game.
Posted by Green-Bean (Member # 13551) on 03-22-2014, 12:59 PM:
cmd, you are right on, with my thinking Poy would make a great player for us his senior year. Much like Miller. All these kids need to come back, but Randle wont, and WCS wont. Young will prolly be misguided, By WWW. he's a agent now. Ash I know what you are saying, and Didn't mean to sound wrong. CMD if all come back but young and Randle, we will be loaded next year, with talent and experience, Hey cmd do we have Room for everyone next year? Cause Willie may not leave.
Posted by Green-Bean (Member # 13551) on 03-22-2014, 01:02 PM:
Ashtucky you are right if we cant get fired up tomorrow, these kids need to play another sport. I haven't seen that technical called before game started since my high school days, for dunking in warm ups, since my High school Days. 42 yrs ago.

My opinion on Randle roaming the perimeter and taking 3s.
Cal told him to. K State probably spent a lot of time working on doubling Julius. Who should pick him up down low and who and where to double him.
So Cal says don't go in there, the D will be confused not knowing how to adapt. May create opportunities for others.
Did you notice they didn't really double him hard in the second half and Julius made them pay! He scored 6 or so straight points that put us back in the lead when they cut it to 2.
I think it was part of Cal's game plan and worked.
I may be over analyzing this (my Mom always said I have an over active imagination) but I can't believe that Randle would make these decisions on his own. JMHO

I think Wichita's schedule hurt them and it's not there fault but there schedule didn't allow them to play enough talented teams and it caught up with them this afternoon. We have played tough teams all season and have been in tough situations coming down the stretch and we have learned how to play under those conditions and it paid off for us today.
We now have another tough game coming up against a very savvy team with a coach that has been through tough games too. The winner will be the coach and team that wants it more and it will be a fun game to watch and may the best team win. Go Cats!

I guess I may have to drink 2 Blue moon's , for the ville game instead of 1. Or maybe just 2 Glasses of ice cold Tea.
