Briscoe has not been looking good, the past couple of games. Hope he turns it around. The wide open missed layup kinda summed his performance up. He has had a lot of games, this season, where he is Mr dependable. He has to get over this and get back to being that guy.

Wins and losses are a team effort. I am not saying one guy is responsible for them losing. But, the team needs him to be reliable. That is the issue with bringing in the best talent, the upper classman who you count on to steady the freshman is a sophomore. I would still rather have the best talent, than a team of upperclassmen who beat teams early in the season, but get beat in the tourney because they can't handle star players from the top teams.

Briscoe is definitely having a Jekyll and Hyde season. And it's very frustrating when he's Hyde!

This team is not yet a "team". They have no clue how to play together as a unit. Last night I would pay attention to our offensive players who didn't have the ball. So much standing around and watching. I think these guys still like to play a lot of one-on-one.

Quotes and opinions from KSR on what Cal said last night:
quote:

How upset was John Calipari with his squad tonight? Kentucky fought back at the end and could have made a late shot to tie it up or win it, but Calipari said his team didn’t deserve a happy ending. “Tennessee was better than us,” Cal said, noting how Tennessee practically led from start to finish. “They deserved to win the game. It would have been a shame if we made a three or something crazy and won the game.” If you thought the team looked off, you’re not alone. Calipari said he’s not getting through to a few of his players, who are playing more for themselves and not for the team as a whole. “Tom Brady made a statement that these guys aren’t listening to and I told them to last night: doing what’s right for the team sometimes may not be right for you but that’s how you win. You do what’s right for the team, not necessarily what’s right for you as an individual player and I’m not getting through to some guys. And I told them after, you’ll continue to lose. I’ve done this 30 years. You cannot do the stuff that they’re doing and win basketball games. You cannot do it. I don’t want to call guys out but I can go right down the line. Here’s what I’m asking you to do, you refuse to do it. Here’s what I’m asking you to do — I’ve got to call a timeout — Wenyen?!” Clearly, they’re either not listening to Cal or they’re not Tom Brady fans, but Cal says he hopes they throw up the white flag soon. “But we’re all freshmen. We may need to lose a few games in a row and then have them come to my office in mass and say, ‘Coach, we surrender! Tell us what you want us to do because we know we can’t win now but we think we can! We thought we were out in Vegas playing Houston Stars, but we’re not.’ We’ve got all young kids and it’s growing pains.” “Hopefully this grabs their attention, and we get back to, how do we have to play as a team to be one of those teams. What we were tonight, we’re not, and a lot of that credit goes to Tennessee.”
quote:

This team are starting to show signs of playing very selfish. Briscoe has had three straight bad games now scoring wise. He did have a double double with 14 rebounds and 11 points but it was not a double double that helped his team win. This team is by far Cal's weakest defensive team since coming to UK, this team just don't play individual or team defense and when you don't defend, you lose games to very weak teams like UT last night.

He needs to send "some guys" to the bench when they aren't doing what's right for the team. We have subs, you know. Jones, Wynyard, Hawkins, Mulder (granted he was out sick), heck even Diallo. Give these guys more minutes if others aren't gonna play for the team. Put up or shut up, Cal.

I think we have too many people playing scared and too many people not playing scared enough.

Can't sit the OneNDones. Monk and Fox have carte-blanche to take bad shots and play lousy defense. Also, Bam to some degree. Bam doesn't rebound or play defense well.

I guess you guys have summarized why some of these guys are not ready for the NBA. Right now Briscoe and Bam would get killed in the league. On the right team Monk would probably fit right in because he just wants to run and shoot. Willis and Gabriel do miss some assignments and get trapped on defense but they are becoming good board men and shooters.
