It's a two hour documentary on coach Cal that comes on ESPN at 9:00 tonight. I'll probably watch it. Some of those are pretty good.

I watched it. It was very good. Calipari had no control over the documentary. They slammed him and Memphis on the Rose eligibility. I thought it was dirty, the way the NCAA cleared him before the start of the season and after the end of the season they changed their mind and demanded Rose retake the ACT. He had already declared for the pros, the NCAA had no power over him. Then they shafted the school.

I do think it is odd that Calipari has detractors (who claim to be Kentucky fans) that say he is a great recruiter but can't coach. He went to two programs that were terrible and had no tradition and built them into winners. Then he came to Kentucky that had a storied winning tradition, but had slipped into a has been by keeping Tubby too long and hiring Billy the drunk.

Thought it was good too Boom - thoroughly enjoyed watching it. On the Rose eligibility they seemed to insinuate William Wesley may have had something do do with that. Glad that guy disappeared when Cal came here. I thought the documentary was overall fair, a good job of telling the story and let opinions fall where they may.

The program was very insightful. I don't think it will change many opinions of the man, although they may understand him a little better. Those who hate him still will hate him and those who love him will still love him.

I do think that both the situations at UMass and at Memphis were not his fault and this was not really stressed enough to counterbalance the large number of newspaper headlines that they showed blaming him for both. Marcus Camby took full responsibility for what he did and reimbursed the school for their fine and nobody said that Cal had any prior knowledge of his actions that caused all of that. And the Memphis situation was really beyond the pale. If the NCAA clears you, how can they then retroactively punish you? What value does NCAA clearance have anyway if they can rescind it during or after the season? And why in the world did the University (and who was it that told the NCAA that, the president?) say that they knew that Rose was ineligible when, in fact, all year they thought that he was eligible since the NCAA had cleared him? And what did any of that have to do with Cal? I didn't know that the school in Tennessee was supposed to somehow monitor a SAT score taken in Michigan or Illinois or wherever by a potentially prospective student and that was part of their "strict liability". The other thing about all of this was their clip of Bobby Knight's comments (to a paying Indiana audience, naturally). A little context would have been nice, like that Knight has always hated UK going back to the Rupp and Hall days and he also subsequently lied about UK and Cal to another of his gullible paying Hoosier audiences with his untrue comments that none of UK's starting five in the 2009-2010 year (John Wall team) had attended classes in the spring semester. His tepid "apology" that he was forced to make was proof that he was unrepentant in his views, regardless of the truth of the matter. So Knight's credibility with respect to UK and Cal is utterly nonexistent and their inclusion in the program was problematic from a fairness standpoint.

But, the program did show his loyalty to his players and their continued loyalty to him, as evidenced by the huge Hall of Fame turnout. I'd say that, from a recruiting standpoint for us, it was a very big plus.

As far as a recruiting tool goes, it was a very powerful testament to Calipari's player first program and how he treats his players. I am sure top players and their parents will see that program.

If I were a future NBA prospect or a parent of one and saw that documentary, it would be hard to refuse a scholly offer from Coach Cal. He already is the number one recruiter in the sport.

Despite the negative part about Rose at Memphis, it was 100% positive for recruiting, in my opinion.

Enjoyed it thoroughly. I remember the Temple incident with Chainey, I felt Chainey was way out of line...

I loved the program last night, but it confirmed to me that Calipari's number one agenda is to get these kids paid, and I disagree with using college athletics as the platform for his agenda. He just makes it seem like their lives will end if they don't hurry up and get an NBA contract. My brother always says, "If money can solve your problems, then you really don't have problems." In the grand scheme of life, money is nothing more than a means of getting stuff. You know a Ford Pinto does the same exact thing as a Rolles Royce. An apartment in the slum will shelter you from the weather the same as a $50 million mansion.

Miles Bridges, most likely a lottery pick, just announced he's coming back at Michigan State. I doubt this would've happened had he come to UK.

With that said, I CAN"T WAIT TIL NEXT SEASON!!! [Big Grin]

Enjoyed it immensely! If that didn't sway some of the recruits our way nothing will.

Let's take a look at what Calipari has accomplished at Kentucky. He has the highest winning percentage of all time. He has won a national championship. He has been to another title game And a few more final fours. This past season he beat the eventual champions during the regular season and took them down to the wire in the tourney, even though the refs tried To foul out his whole starting line up in the first half. With results like that, I am damn proud to have a coach who runs a player first program! Go Cats!

Since the beginning of Kentucky basketball we have only had 3 coachs that coached double digit seasons. I guess when Rupp coached the Cats for 41 seasons it doesn't leave too many years left. [Wink]

What impressed me the most about this was how he connects with the players. Lou Roe really made impression on me with his words. He said that Cal made him a man, and was responsible for who he is today. Sometimes it is easy to forget the real role of a coach. They are to make these young men into productive citizens, contributors to their communities, great husbands, and fathers. It did nothing to change my view of him as an x's and o's coach, but I did get an insight into how he cares about the players, and how the players feel about him.

I have looked and failed...I missed the 30 for 30 and would love to watch the replay. Anyone know where?

I've seen it replayed a couple of times so far. Just check the ESPN television listing and you may find it being replayed one night this week.

It was on again late last night. I only watched a little of it as my old eyelids got heavy. The part I saw was more or less the Marcus Camby Show.
