Congratulations to Ashton Hagans, who has been named a semifinalist for the 2020 Naismith Defensive Player of the Year award. The list was narrowed from 15 to 10 this morning.

Marcus Garrett, Kansas
Romaro Gill, Seton Hall
Jacob Gilyard, Richmond
Ashton Hagans, Kentucky
Tre Jones, Duke
Davion Mitchell, Baylor
Zavier Simpson, Michigan
Aaron Thompson, Butler
Mark Vital, Baylor
This season, Hagans is averaging 11.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, 6.5 assists (1st in the SEC), 1.9 steals (2nd in the SEC), and 3.5 turnovers per game. Last year, he won SEC Defensive Player of the Year and was also named a semifinalist for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year award, which is only in its third year. West Virginia’s Jevon Carter won it in 2018 and Washington’s Matisse Thybulle won it last year.

The finalists will be named March 12 and the winner will be revealed April 5.

When there is a Duke player on the list it makes it tougher. Hopefully Hagans wins it this year as he sure is deserving.
