Im here for the so called experts on this page who said this was a .500 team at best. We just don’t have the talent. Blah Blah Blah
Go Big Blue!
Huge win for the program and a ton of momentum for Pope!

Wow! What a great win. Cats came to play, defense was so much better in the second half and coach Pope made great halftime adjustments. GO CATS!

It's a new era in Kentucky basketball, boys and girls. It's back to the glory days!

Is anyone here used to the halftime adjustments?
We've had a coach for the past 15 years that didn't do a single halftime adjustments and it always showed!

KY's been talked about with their offensive skill, but it was their defense down the stretch that pulled out the wind for them!

As Andrew Carr said in his opening post game statement. "That's why they call it Catlanta!"

I’m No basketball expert, but have worked with media for 40 years. ESPN got caught leaning. Flagg banner flying to open sports center. So unprepared for UK to win.

KY wins the second half 40-26

This is KY's 1st Champions classic win since '19

The rule of 71 held up again tonight too!
Posted by Bama Cat (Member # 153) on 11-13-2024, 12:30 AM:
Uhhhh! Didn't I say that these young kids at Duke wouldn't be expecting these old men to play so well. Just a bunch of pick ups from around the country who had played well for their lower team. But from what I had been seeing I just knew they were going to give these young kids a run for the money. Maybe we're top 10 now? Or even top 5? I doubt they'll give us that much credit but when the wins start piling up they'll have to recognize what we are doing. We have some guys who will be drafted, not just one. I'd say we're on a big win streak until we meet Gonzaga. And we might be good enough to squeek out a win over them also.

MH, I'm always looking to see who scores 71 first. Rarely is the Rule Of 71 wrong!

You could tell which team was still fresh at the end. Our ten-man rotation wore down the Blue Devils. Flagg is a pretty darn good player, but he was very tired at the end. Fatigue and being a freshman is what brought him down.

Yes PaulCat, Flagg is good but Freshman mistakes at the end beat duke!!!

1. I am not sure that any team has ever won a championship using a 10 man rotation. Generally most teams will play 7 and sometimes 8. UCONN won last year playing basically a 6 man rotation. You want your best players on the court 35 minutes a game come tourney time in my opinion.
2. Not every team will deal with what UK has to deal with this year. They have zero players that have played together. You have only one player that has played in the system. That is a huge learning curve.
3. Maybe the most important and overlooked. Pope has done an incredible job of getting a roster together. That being said it is probably the 10th best roster in the SEC.
Bama/Auburn/Texas A&M/Tennessee/Arkansas/Florida/Ole Miss/Texas/Miss State all have better rosters than UK.
UK is probably right there with South Carolina/Georgia/Oklahoma/LSU and have a better roster than Missouri and Vanderbilt.
What does that mean? Every single game that UK plays will be competitive and every team will still consider UK their biggest game of the season and get the opponents best.
I still stick to being a 0.500 team or one or two games above or below that mark.

Trey I think you need some sunshine. This point of view is beyond pessimistic. 10th in the SEC by talent could not be further from the reality. Especially when, Andy Katz and the rest of the national analysts are placing UK in the top 25. Also in this era most teams are turning over the majority of their key pieces each year. UK and Arkansas will be unique in turning over the entirety of its rosters but that doesn’t place them in .500 category.

WHO?UK,
So what is your record prediction for the regular season then assuming UK plays 31 games (13 non conference and 18 conference games)
I assume since you think they will be Top 10 that would be a regular season record of 25-6 to 27-4?
Which games do you think they lose?

I see them going 3-1 in their big out of conference games against Duke, Zags, OSU and potentially UNC.
Drop two randomly in catch me games.
Drop 2-3 in the SEC. To the likes a split with Alabama and UT.
A&M, Florida, Auburn and Arkansas are all Home games so I expect us to win those. But we definitely drop 1 or 2.
Texas away is a tough one because they are away but Coach Pope and Coach Feuger should already have a head start on scouting them out.
So yes I can see them very easily going 25-6 or 27-4.
I don’t think the learning curve for Coach Pope system is going to be that high. He is extremely intelligent. His staff is phenomenal. Almost all of his players are veteran transfers and should have the ability to pick it up and help others who are struggling.
This crop is different where 3-4 of our studs are not 18 years old. Also we don’t have Cal waiting for camp Cal to really turn it on because he doesn’t want to overload an 18 year old.
Just where I’m at.

TREY I got plenty of BIG BLUE SUNSHINE if you want some?

Duke has seen it and now the SEC can plan on seeing it soon. I still give no quarter. I think the experience will only get better. If I was a traveling man I'd start getting my reservations in now.

I have said I will be happy if we are a little over .500 and playing better at the end of the season. I'm just excited to see actual coaching, regardless of how many wins we get. I thought we would keep it close last night, but I did not think we would win. This team played so good last night, and was so much fun to watch. I love this team!!

Good win for the Cats. Loved the adjustments by Pope. That being said, I still think this teams comes in near 0.500. Duke, who is not a great defensive team on the perimeter, showed how easy it was to take Jaxon Robinson out of the offense and other teams will copy that as well.
I also said all their "games" meaning against Power 5 would be close and hopefully Coach Pope steals a few games with his coaching. He did that tonight. Most of the time close games go 50/50 unless you are the Kansas City Chiefs. LOL.
Scheyer tried to Coach K it with the refs, but he doesn't have that clout yet.
Of course Duke did miss a ton of Wide Open threes from their Kobe Brea and others and the game changed once the big center started cramping up and was in and out of the lineup and he coudln't move when he was in, but I will take it all day.

WHO,
LOL. Hey, I am not afraid to share my opinion. Sometimes they are right and sometimes wrong. I hope this team wins all of the close games, but I am firmly behind Mark Pope. Before he was even sniffed as a candidate I did post this:

May Amir Abdur-Rahim rest in piece.
