So I am a bit of a statistical nerd.
Arkansas L
Illinois who shot 52% from the Field and 48% from 3.
Arkansas shot 48% from the Field and 29% from 3.
Kentucky W
GA St who shot 46% from the Field and 52% from 3.
Kentucky shot 59% from the Field and 26% from 3.
Now yes Illinois is a better team than GA ST. However, Cal's inability to make in game adjustments. Change his defense or offensive focus is what lost us these games in the past and will haunt Arkansas as long as he is their coach.
I whole heartedly believe Kentucky would have either been in a nail biter in the GA ST game under Cal or they would have lost.
Further stats that prove this are as follows:
Arkansas got out rebounded 28-21. Turnover margin was even 11-11. Steal margin was even 7-7. But Illinois won the assists 16-12. For the most part the stat line was even across board minus the rebounding. The story from the shooting discrepancy is 100% Cal not wanting to come off of his weave/dribble drive and change his defensive scheme to slow Illinois down or disrupt them in another way.
On the THANKFUL side. Pope makes adjustments. Kentucky shot horribly from 3 and took 26 of them. Pope changing the offensive focus to go inside while simultaneously pressuring GA ST's guards more who were hurting us turned what would have been a tough game under Cal to a 30 point blow out and another 100 point game.

Did you watch the Ark vs Illinois game? Illinois beat Ark 30 times on a middle high ball screen. I mean I have watch Kentucky for years and we could never defend a middle high ball screen. Same is now happening at Arkansas. I really hate to hate on Cal, but this was my biggest complaint with him. He never seems to adjust.

I am so thankful for this team this year. They have been so fun to watch. Watching Arkansas struggle with a Miami team that has lost 4 in a row (to Drake, Charleston So, Oklahoma State, and VCU) really reminds me of how good we have it right now in the coaching category.
I will say, watching Arkansas, I would have loved for us to keep Boogie Fland. That kid is a great player, and I think he would have fit Pope's system really well. But I am more than happy with what we have.
