So I just read where BYU paid AJ Dybantsa $8.5 Million to come play there for one year next year.
That would make him the 185th highest paid player in the NBA. To put that in perspective Russell Westbrook is making $5.6 million this year and Zach Edey is making $5.75 million this year.

I am all for NIL for the players and paying them but this is just ridiculous.

It makes the $1.5 million and a Cybertruck that UK paid Jasper Johnson seem cheap. [Eek!]

This can't continue as is forever. A bunch of coaches are going to get together and complain about it. I forsee congress getting involved with this whole procedure. Of course there is no amateurism in College basketball anymore.

NIL is not name, image and likeness. It is simply paying players. This is just terrible for college sports.

I read somewhere that NIL is going away and it's gonna move to NCAA profit sharing. Although I still don't agree with this, I think it'll be a lot better than simply paying players to come to your school.

This sure puts a new perspective on the one and done situation. These kids with a future in sports used to have to insure themselves for even just that one season to get something out of their career in college, now they can if they are smart, and take finance classes their freshman season to learn how best to manage their money ( I happen to think all college freshman should have to do this so they will be educated enough to know if they can affords 3 more years of college loans... ), they can maybe at least test the waters of some leagues that don't pay the millions.

I would like to see the NCAA manage this first by going back to the sit out a year if you transfer, with no NIL allowed rule that season. No play no pay (except medical redshirt situations). I'm not smart enough to offer particulars in the area, but maybe some sort of a contract system would also help.

I would also like to see this removed as a tax loophole for the extremely wealthy. Put a limit on what is deductible, be very deliberate on how those monies are used, both by the donor and the athleate, and put it at a manageable level.
