If this blog information is correct we have lost big man Majok. Hopefully the information is wrong but it sure isn't comforting to read..

Not surprising. He was a long shot to get at best.

Never counted on him really. Should Majok end up in Storrs it is another in the many examples of lengthy relationships and their importance in 21st century recruiting. Majok had a minimum of a two-year history with UConn and their representatives. Add to that the cosmopolitan nature of the Big East vis a vis the SEC and the odds were indeed long for UK.

cmd-with all due respect, trust me, it was a long shot. You don't turn a kid's head in a matter of weeks after he has been courted by others for 2 years. It was nice he considered us, but it appears to me it was out of courtesy more than anything else.

I guess you have to look at the good side. Maybe Majok will stay at UCONN and give Louisville fits for the next few years....The other thing is that St. Louis is our competition for Harrellson.... Maybe we can win that one..

If you had ever been to Storrs, Connecticut (the home of the UConn), you wouldn't call it 'cosmopolitan'. More like 'Out in the sticks'...
Hartford is a relatively short drive away for those needed an urban setting, but Storrs is C-O-U-N-T-R-Y all the way.

UConn and Kentucky have been involved with Majok for the same time - since he decommitted from Baylor last October.

DDS, glad you brought that up as UConn didn't even get a visit from Majok until March 1st of this year. We were on him like you say shortly after he decommited from Baylor and had plenty of time to recruit him and tell him why he should commit to the Cats. (note link)
We just lost out to UConn for what ever reason. It just seems like every time we lose out on a recruit we have to always make excuses. It really isn't necessary to do that as recruiting is not a exact science and who knows what goes through a recruits mind when picking a college. It would be nice however to know why not Kentucky so adjustments could be made for future recruiting and hopefully we are doing that. Knowing coach G the way we do i am sure he knows and has it in his memory bank...

That's just not true. Majok and especially his advisors were involved with UConn even prior to him traveling to Australia.
As for Storrs (I have been there) it is in a rather bucolic setting but culturally it is definitely part of the northeast/east coast pattern and considerably more cosmopolitan than the good-ole-boy SEC.

You are obviously privvy to information that most of us here in the US don't have access too. This young man committed to Baylor first, then backed out and UK and UConn were his two finalist with him picking UConn. It is a known fact that one UConn assistant has some experience in Australia and that could have been the deciding factor in the final decision. [ 04-29-2008, 06:16 PM: Message edited by: SCWC ]

bayer, I really don't know this kids entire recruiting history, I suppose that he could have been in contact with UConn prior to his commitment to Baylor last summer, but I was never aware that any such contact was serious on his part. I was under the impression that Baylor was his first visit and his first choice. He verbaled on the spot.
I know that Billy and crew were on him like flies on honey when he decommitted.

I never knew about the Baylor situation. But I did hear there were a "couple" that were instrumental in getting Majok into the USA, and that they had close ties with UCONN and would do everything possible to see that he went to college there. This info came from Jody Demling.

Tut, Hood wants to play for the cats so bad he can taste it..He also heard how Norm feels about Duke and doesn't want to lose his chance to do a little trout fishing in Arkansas. It scared him so bad he is going to commit to Kentucky before fishing season...
