Despite 15 returning starters, its highest-ranked recruiting class in years and a user-friendly schedule, both Lindy's and the Sporting News have predicted a fourth consecutive losing season for Brooks, which likely would mean a one-way ticket out of Lexington.

I can't say I disagree in large part with a 5-6 record for the Cats this year.

The thing with UK is every week it depends on what kind of team shows up to play. If UK could ever get consistancy in thir play on both sides of the ball, they are a team that could sneak one over on a Georgia or a LSU or a South Carolina.

UK should win almost all of its home games. It's still early and there's time left before things get rolling. I think if UK could put up no worse than a .500 conference schedule, they would have a chance at a winning season. They need to get road wins, though. It would help them immensly if they could pull out some road wins.

i think another possibility that could save his job even if they went 5-6 is a signature win over a georgia, florida or tennessee..

and so we do...

I still think 5 wins is the realistic outlook.

A signature win over one of those teams mentioned would certainly help Brooks. However, a losing season is still a losing season. For him to keep his job with a 5 win season I think he would need to beat 2 of those 3 teams at least.

If Ky can win 2 of 3 against Ga, Fla, and Tenn there is no excuse for not having a winning season.

Neither book is worth crap, so I'm not gonna listen to them.

If you're going to get a book, get Phil Steele's. Hands down its the best, most accurate and detailed preseason magazine out there if you're talking about college football. None of this "3 to 4 pages for the most prestigious football teams and 1 page for those who are not" crap. Each of the 119 Div 1-A teams are covered with 2 pages of info for ALL teams. This magazine has beat out The Sporting News, Lindy's, Athlon, Jim Feist, Game Plan, Street & Smith and many others the last 6 years in the category of PREDICTION ACCURACY according to the Stassen site---who keeps tabs on how magazines have fared the since 1993. Depth charts, all of the IMPACT frosh with high school ranking for all players, significant stats from the previous season on all players if applicable. He uses alot of abbreviations which allows him to get so much info into this magazine. The price was $8.95 (USA) and $10.95 (CAN) last year and worth every penny. You can also order on line at www.ncsports.com

Six wins is very attainable. Pulling off an upset of one of the big teams would mean seven wins. The Cats are still very young. As far as the offense goes, they have a 1000 yard rusher and the complete O line returning. The D has depth and experience at lb. Let's not forget that the injury bug tore through this team, last season.

well, trying the be objective here. Yes, UK has a shot at a winning season. Lots of things have to go right. As mentioned before, UK has traditionally been a Hooorrrible road team. My problem is not Brooks but with Barnhardt for hiring Brooks. Brooks, had a tough situation, but is making some nice piece of cake to add to his retirement. Certainly, the scholarship hardships have to be considered coaching in the almighty SEC. However, we never heard Tommy Tubberville *****ing at OLE Miss, when the NCAA had slapped his program after he arrived in Oxford.
Barnhardt, is not well liked by most, and his hiring of the football coach causes more tension. Must we remembered the botched hiring practices, with interviews, and even considering Doug Williams, who is NO LONGER coaching football at this time. Wake up UK fans, you have been tortured for a long time following this UK football program. UK fans long deserve better.
The UK football team should stand up before every game and give the Commonwealth Stadium crowd a standing ovation before each game. They deserve it.

haha yeah, if there's a way to screw things up, Kentucky will find it. Here's my analysis of our schedule:

@ Louisville - Things are never certain in rivalries, but the Cards kicking the Cats butt is. Should be a close one though.

Texas State - Chalk up W #1 to the Big Blue

Ole Miss - Could go either way. But it's on our home turf. Give it to the Cats

@ Florida - We know how inhospitable the Swamp is. Gators will maul us w/the squad they've got.

Central Florida - Sheesh. Two Sunshine State pansies in a row?? These guys are on the rise, but still, Kentucky should be more than able after playing the likes of the Gaytors.

South Carolina - Welcome the Ole Ball Coach back to town. And then watch him whip our behinds.

@ LSU - Kentucky's ball game against the Bayou Bengals will be the second biggest disaster in recent memory regarding the state of Louisiana.

@ Miss. State - Well if anyone is gonna suck worse than Vanderbilt this year, it's the Dawgs of Starkville. UK should have a convincing win at the end of this one.

Georgia - They may be facing QB problems, but I think any UK fan would trade theirs for ours. the defending title Dawgs will certainly win this one.

Vanderbilt - Here's a real confidence builder. The final score should read something like it did after the 3rd quarter of last years game w/'em.

Louisiana-Monroe - Kick their tails in. Nuff said.

@ Tennessee - To me, this and the Louisville game are the only two that I care wholeheartedly about winning. The last time we beat 'em was 1984??? I was one year old. So I can't ever remember seeing us beat these guys. And we go down to the monstrous Neyland this year....If we couldn't get it done last year w/Fat Phil's garbage squad, it won't be this year. After the coaching "switch" and the stud QB they've got, the streak continues...sigh..

So I think 6-6 is quite realistic. I think the only game that may be a swing game is the Ole Miss game. If Schaeffer is eligible for them, the dirty Rebs could get a win here. But the home field advantage....I just don't know. Their only conference win last year came against us. And we should've won that game. Who knows who else they'll pull out. Coach O has offered scholarships to just about anybody who's touched a football in their life.
