I'm getting this quote from an interview, posted by Gamecockboy on SEC Illustrated.com (which I still urge you folks to come by and check out), with the South Carolina AD Eric Hyman.
Question. You came in here a year ago and met a high-profile, well-known national coach who you really didn’t know. How would you describe your relationship with Steve Spurrier?
Answer. What I try to do with all coaches is create an atmosphere that they can be successful. I think Steve’s been a delight to work with...He’s been a success. He’s forgotten more than I’ll ever know. This is his area of expertise. He understands that this is a journey and it’s not something that’s going to happen overnight. It’s building it one brick at a time. He’s got confidence. He’s been extremely successful. That’s not the issue.
When you can win at Duke — and I know his accomplishments at Florida were phenomenal. Florida had never won a championship before he got there and never won one afterwards — but to win a championship at Duke, which I probably have a lot of appreciation for, speaks volumes for him.
So he knows his system works. It’s a matter of giving him the support to do it. Our relationship has been very good.

We all know that Spurrier is a helluva coach, hands down. But if a coach who's got the skills and talent that SOS has can win a football title at DOOK!?! By-god it can happen at UK. Also, it would seem that at South Carolina, they have made it a priority to support the football program. I'm not so sure that's the case here at Kentucky. The point is, the coach DOES make a difference. There's no way you can argue otherwise.

Oh, let me just add this: University of Kentucky. 1950. Bear Bryant. National Champions. Again, the coach makes the difference.

lol isn't that the only way to go about it?? Of course, being the diehard Big Blue fan that I am, I wish Brooks and the football squad the very best of luck this year. Would I love Rich Brooks to develop into a great coach and lead this team to bowl after bowl?? You bet. We all would. But his track record in the past isn't great either. His overall record is somewhere around .400 win %. His Oregon teams got pretty good towards the end of his tenure there, even took 'em to the Rose Bowl. But that took 18 years. SOS beat Florida his first year at South Carolina. Which would be the equivalent of a bowl victory 'round these parts I should think.

So what you're saying is that Brooks "developed into a pretty good coach" at the end of his tenure at Oregon and then got dumb again and became a bad coach thereafter? Or am I missing your point?
