mike archer has had a lot of criticism thrown at him this year but today he had a great game plan and his defensive players followed that plan to a letter. hopefully he will get some love by all the great kentucky fans...

I loved the announcers commenting that if KY was the 100 and whatever ranked defense in the country that the stats were'nt completely accurate.
They had big stops against the run today!

I agree catman let's give Mike some credit he has
paid a big price for. Things should be a lot
better next year. GO CATS

For a few minutes there in the third quarter I was beginning to think that our rush defense looked as good as the Steelers in the last few years.
YOu had to runningbacks who averaged almost 200 yards a game all season long and I don't think either one of them got over 100 yards.
LIke I told my family while we were watching the game, If we could be a 2 score or better team into the second half they would have to pass the ball more and go away from the run game. It worked to our advantage!!!

i think one of the things that has hurt our defense in the past few years is that we have had to use a lot of our scholarships on the offensive side of the ball. i'm not saying this is wrong it isn't, but it has hurt the defensive side. archer now can really start building the numbers with our scholarships back to normal. numbers are so important in the sec as there are so many injuries. we now have loi's for a dozen freshman coming in next year that are defensive players!

Depth has been a big problem at KY for decades! It will be good to see some depth on the defense.
It's always been a thing that our starteers could usually compete with anyone else in the SEC it was our reserves that hurt us!

right on mh! numbers are sooo important.

The defense played very good for most of the game, and I'll give Archer some credit for that. But what I do not understand is why any team goes to the "prevent" defense just to let the other eam have easy scores. On Clemson's last score, we put NO PRESSURE on their quarterback, dropping everyone into deep coverage, just to give him ample time to pick out an open receiver.
To UK's credit though, we had built up a 16 point margin that was too large for Clemson to overcome.
Great win for the Cats, and it feels good having the national media talk about our win and how Brooks is building the program up.

I agree completely Catmando. You really hit the nail on the target with this remark. Archer is a great defensive coach. He proved it while coaching for the Steelers and at UK. Brook's recruiting priorities have led to his not having the big guns he is used to having, but that will change quickly now that we are fully loaded with scholarships again. I'm not criticizing Brooks for setting this priority, it is hard to argue with the success he has achieved with this strategy. Just saying that the criticism Archer has received over the past year is unfair and unwarranted.

Guys, let's not get TOO happy with Archer--I'm glad we won, but when the third-best rushing duo in the nation gets TWELVE CARRIES (with one of them averaging 8 yards per carry), and their crappy QB is asked to win the game, then we got them to play right into our hands!
I'm so glad to see a season end with a WIN, I love it, WAY TO GO CATS!

Clemson missed 2 field goals and 2 PAT's. That's what ultimately led UK to a Win.
But, I'll take a bowl win any way I can get it. I thought UK should have had 1 more TD but 28 points was enough. hell, I would've settled for a 3-0 win in overtime.
But, it's good to see UK back on the winning track. 8 good wins and a bowl victory make some pretty good recruiting candy for the future.
