Mike Archer, defensive coordinator at the University of Kentucky, has resigned in order to accept another coaching position.

Archer has been the defensive coordinator at UK for the past four seasons,
working to build a unit that has been challenged by low scholarship numbers,
injuries, and inexperience. Archer's patient building began showing signs of
improvement during the 2006 season, as the Wildcats posted an 8-5 record,
including a 28-20 victory over Clemson in the Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl.

Don,

I am aware of his trip to NC State. An article in the Kentucky Kernel indicated that while he had interviewed at NC State, Archer declined to reveal the school he had accepted the job with. Thus, my question "Why the secrecy?"

Well, it's confirmed now that Archer is going to NC State.

This football season just keeps getting better, even after the games are completed.

Any opinions on how this will affect recruiting, both commitments and future?

Archer is a very highly thought of coach and probably will effect recruiting until we get someone hired and the new coach has a chance to talk to our recruits that were recruited by Archer. I hope he does well and wish he would have stayed here, however with all the flak he took from some of the fan base one can hardly blame him...

I was one that garnered more respect for Archer as the season progressed. Definitely there was improvement.
I'm sure someone of immense credibility will take this job and impress current recruits. We're SEC Baby!!!!!!!!

I've never been one to grant much influence to fans and their opinion, with the exception of the failure to buy tickets. To think that what we post here has an appreciable effect on coaching is the height of self-importance and an evasion of reality.
