Yes, Rich Brooks had a tough start but he has turned the team around and it's starting to move up the ladder. Here is a article from a writer not noted for giving out accolades and he does attempt to show some confirmation of Brooks progress..
On Monday, Rich Brooks embarks on his 67th year of what has been a full life.
In less than two weeks, Rich Brooks officially embarks on his fifth year as head of the UK football program.
I admit it.
I didn't think the old guy would last this long.
As UK's coach, I mean.
But he has, and deservedly so. Piece by piece, brick by brick, Brooks has trumped probation, adversity and criticism (blush) to put his 2007 Cats in the solid and optimistic position of at least matching, if not improving on last year's historic bowl win.
Not all of us saw it coming. Put me at the front of that line. I've got the words to back it up, back in our archives, the first two days in 2002 after Brooks was named to succeed Guy Morriss.
Then: "Why do I have the feeling that although by all indications Rich Brooks is a good, solid football coach, he is not the home run UK football fans were hoping for?"
Now: Sometimes home-run hitters swing and miss. On-base percentage moves the runners around the sacks. Brooks has been more of a singles hitter, stroking line drives, not running himself out of innings. This year the Cats have the bases loaded, though there is a formidable opponent(s) on the mound.
A little love
