I've never been a fan of a playoff system, but it really seems like the SEC is gonna get screwed this year. LSU and UF could both finish with 2 losses and easily stomp a mudhole in the two teams that might end up playing for the title.

Playoff system is the only true way to do it. It is also the only way to ever give a "Cinderella" (George Mason '06 final four, Pittsburgh Steelers #6 seed in '06)a chance at winning it all. They could rotate the BCS bowls as the host for the championship games.
I really dont see any negatives in having a playoff system except the extended games teams have to play.

As far as the SEC screwing themselves you are correct. We could have Fla and LSU playing again for the SEC title. And if Florida wins both teams would end up with two losses and out of chance at playing for the title.

Regardless of the SEC screwing their self college football and us the fans deserve a playoff system!!

Here's a likely outcome (prophecy, if you wish):

Current BCS contract expires 2010, thus in 2010/2011, the following: 4 preliminary bowls (Sun, Gator, Outback and Cotton, e.g.) with 8 * seeded (5-12) teams (call it the quarterfinals) with 4 winners and 4 byes (reseeded) advancing to 4 major bowls (Sugar, Rose, Orange and Fiesta) and 2 winners advancing to NC game. Wouldn't necessarily extend season and, most important, would increase revenue for NCAA and conferences.

* Perhaps chosen by similar method as current BCS ranking or by a NCAA committee such as D1 BB. Teams not making the "Elite Eight" (or some non-BB name "Elegant, Excellent or Exquisite Eight") would have opportunity for other bowl games.

The playoffs would make college football so much more exciting. The bowls are a drag.

I love the idea but how do you do it? I mean we say we want the little guy in but we can't exactly take 64 teams, and you can take 16 but you would have to shorten the season and then those who don't make it would lose money......

I think it would be great because to me the worst thing that can happen in college football is when an overratted team see Ohio St. gets to a championship game playing no-one considereing their own conference is weak and a 11-2 LSU and an 11-2 UF gets no shot at the championship, I assure you that LSU and UF are better than OSU!!!!

This year IMO the SEC will be left out I will even make a prediction one more TBL, LSU will have three loses, they will lose at Alabama, and in the SEC title if they even play for it to UF, the BCS game will be one loss Oklahoma against whomever comes out of the Pac Ten with one loss, and it will be a snoozer IMO!!!!

UK, Florida, LSU could all lose three games and be three of the top 5 teams in the nation, I truly beleive UK's offense is in the top five of all of college football not so sure about their defense though [Wink]

So I don't like you lose you are out of it, and you lose twice you are def out of it!

Let me ask all fans of coolege football this hypothetical, we have watched amazing games UK-UF, LSU-UF, LSU-UK the round robin TBL talked about, woudl you rather see 11-1 Oregon play 11-1 Oklahoma, or 11-2 UF play 11-1 Oklahoma, I mean I see no reason a two loss team shouldn't play for it if everyone in the nation other than Hawaii has a loss? What you think?

Here we go with this guy and his OSU hatred again.Hey buddy, get over it.Your beloved SEC kicked the crap out of an overconfident and unprepared OSU last year.

Bottomline is and the underlining theme of this season is that OSU hasn't gotten tripped up by the middle of the road teams. They take care of business and occasionally run into better team or a very good team on the road or after a long-ass lay-off (but few and far between).

Florida lost to #23 Auburn this year ... OSU didn't get tripped up when facing #2 Mich, #13 Iowa, #24 Penn St. or #2 Texas last season. They got tripped up at Happy Valley in 05' against then #16 Penn State .. that's why the fell out of National Championship recognition and to the Feista Bowl where they Manhandled #5 Notre Dame that year.

If the Bucks lose Saturday at Penn State, they won't be there at season's end either ... just like those teams you think should have been over OSU & Michigan weren't last year come the end of the regular season.

See how this works? OSU beats TWO #2 ranked teams last year and is said to not have played anybody ... This season, Florida loses to a #23 ranked team (Auburn) who lost to an unranked Mississippi State team and LSU loses to #14 Kentucky and there is some kind of conspiracy theory in you OSU haters mind.

OSU will win the National Championship in a rebuilding year, this season, so you better start getting prepared.

Ohio State deserved to be in the BCS championship last year based on their schedule - no question about it. It was really the Big 10 as a whole that got exposed in the bowl games (specifically the lack of speed in that conference).

This year, LSU will beat Ohio State if they meet in the BCS championship but I would not expect a blowout since LSU has played close games against most good teams they have played.

I think Ohio State has a good shot at a championship if they can get matched up with a BC or Oklahoma sort of matchup.

Ohio State's schedule is very weak this year, though - unlike last season. Michigan is probably the best team Ohio State will play this year and we all know how they fared when matched up against quality teams outside the Big 10.

OSU will lose Saturday and to Michigan as well for a two loss season, thats what I am prepared for, then I am prepared to watch a lame game Oklahoma against a lame 10-1 Pac Ten Team, Heck honestly I hope Ohio St goes undefeated and play for the title so at least I will want to watch to see if they are as bad as I think they are, if you watch lots of football which I am sure you do being an OSU fan, can you honestly tell me the B.C. Virginia Tech, the OSU Notre Dame, the OSU MSU games have the football played that the LSU UF, UF UK, LSU UK games had? I love college football man I watch it all I can and I jsut think OSU gets exposed Saturday night, this Saturday. I would rather OSU, Kansas, whomever play undefeated then watch two one loss teams go at, my point the best teams are in the SEC and they are beating up on each other and none of them are going to make the N.C. a playoff would eliminate that, the best team would win a playoff the best teams won't even be playing this year! I have nothing to get over, I loved the result of Basketball and Football is worked out just like I thought it would!

Bahahaha....does OSU even play a ranked opponent this year? I forgot, with their 73rd ranked schedule they did play a 23rd ranked(for one week) Purdue team. They will get humiliated in a bowl game again this year and I can't wait to see it.

I'm neither a fan nor a disparager of OSU. In fact the Buckeyes are rather far down on my list of most-disliked teams (headed by Duke, closely followed by UNC, UCLA, Notre Dame, etc.). Nevertheless, the Big Eleven (the fact they refuse to recognize mathematical certainty speaks volumes regarding their attitude) is, IMO, a detriment to college athletics. I say that for several reasons but the best example is the comments of Commissioner James Delaney following OSU's humiliating loss to UF in 2007 NC game. In those comments he said, in effect, that there was no way the Big Eleven could match the speed of the SEC because those type of athletes couldn't gain admission to Big Eleven schools. To me that arrogant, impolitic statement and attitude is at best elitist and at worst racist.

Amen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a Gator Fan and I have admitted it, I am also a UK fan, My sister attended UK and graduated from UK as wellas my Brother In Law, I have attended several Football games and Basketball games, more then anything I am a sports fan, when UK played Florida I wanted UK to Win 56-49 I wanted both teams to score everytime they caught the ball, and I wanted UK to win because they still had a shot at the National Championship especailly if they won that game! As a fan of college athletics, I love college football this year by the way, I watch all games, I have watched USF WVU Live, USF Rutgers, OSU MSU, VT-B.C. FSU-UNC, UA-LSU, LSU-UF, UM-UI, Texas, etc., and IMO and thats all it is an opinion of a sports fan, the SEC has by far the best football conference, its not even close, and in reality I like UL and USF too so I wish the big east was up there, but they are not!

"conspiracy theory" is not used correctly above. Nobody thinks people have this system in place for the sole purpose of screwing the SEC. We're just saying that's how it plays out. "conspiracy theory" is overused these days (along with "irony", btw); people tend to use it to talk about anyone who disagrees with them, which isnt accurate.

And yeah, other schools can name a string of tough games on their schedule, but a team like Florida started the season having to go 7-1 or better against Georgia, Tenn, South Carolina, UK, FSU, Auburn, LSU and whoever won the West in order to play for the national title. going 6-2 in those 8 games will actually be better than teams that will have 1 loss seasons against a Big Ten schedule.

Yeah I'm really terrified of LSU's vaunted offense. The same offense who couldn't outscore a really bad UK defense.LSU wouldn't even put up 14 points against OSU.Guaranteed.
Look. This year NO team in the top 5 stands head and shoulders better than anyone so that means any team in the SEC that MAY get to the national title game will NOT blow out OSU,Oregon,USC,Oklahoma or whomever.

Saturday night will say alot, I am not impressed with LSU's offense either, heck I think LSU is not as good as UF, but they did beat them. IMO the OSU PSU game will be real tight and real low scoring, if OSU goes out blows the doors off PSU on the road wins 35-7 I will take complete notice and go wow this team is the real deal.

I am not just talking from my arse on this one I have watched OSU everytime they have been on TV and I am just not that impressed, but they can prove me and all the other SEC Junkies thats a better word than "Inbreds" IMO wrong go 4-0 the next four, beat a one loss Oklohoma and the N.C. is yours, I rooted for OSU once 2002 I think it was, they won it too if I am correct, I grew up with Jason Reynolds his brothers all played college ball Patrick for WKU and Robert for OSU, Robert did that dirty neck play that the media went crazy about, but anyway they both won titles in the same year OSU that year and WKU in 2A I think OSU won it, anyway I thought that was cool watching two brothers win N.C. in the same year!!!!!

I really started a distain for OSU last year, and it was all the medias fault, I couldn't believe they thought Michigan was the second best team in the nation and that OSU should have a rematch, It was crazy to me....... It was more a get a life Kurt Herbstreit and Michigan fans than even OSU, but than the whole basketball thing and some run ins with other fans and now all this, they are officially on the top of my least favorites list!

Tampacat.
I have the same feelings for Herbstreit as you do.I was against an OSU/Michigan rematch as well.It made no sense.
I also agree Florida outplayed LSU this year.Tebow is a warrior.
As you have stated your dislikes of OSU I will say that my dislike for Florida mainly is they way to me they aren't the best of winners and shouldn't disparage the opponent and gloat after a victory. This is a direct reflection of the coaches at that school.Yes Donovan and Meyer are two of the best coaches in all of sports. However they and their players sure could take some lessons in winning with class.I don't think too many people take issue withthat opinion.
Lastly my apologies to Tampakat and the board for my earlier remarks. It's just sports and not life and death.

That makes sense man I agree completely about its jsut sports not life and death, just like Rameriz(sp) Manny got bomblasted by a few for saying we lose we lose its not the end of the world, I agree with him [Eek!] I thought hey that man has his priorties right I am sure Redsox's owners GM saw it otherwise. I also understand you like your Buckeyes your are actually in the same boat as me if I read your intial post correctly you like UK basketball but OSU Football, Living in Florida I felt like I had to choose either Miami, FSU, or UF, I choose UF, so for five years now I have followed them and as I said in another post I have an admitted man crush on Tebow, he is now second behind Tiger Woods! I am married with two kids by the way [Wink]

Anyway I will be watching your Buckeyes and hey you go undefeated I hope you beat the Pac ten, Oklahoma I am not sure who I will root for! [Big Grin]

No hard feelings here bro we are all just a bunch of armchair QB"S enjoying are teams.

I love hearing this from OSU fans, how good that defense is. Let's see how good LSU's defense would look had it played Akron, Kent St, Youngstown, Minnesota, etc. Miami Northwestern HS could have a great looking defense vs those teams.

You have no idea if OSU even has a defense with whom they've played. Please.
