The University of Kentucky's 2008 recruiting class featured a noticeable absence of junior-college players, the first time the Wildcats haven't signed a JUCO prospect since Rich Brooks arrived in Lexington in December 2002.

• Speaking of Arkansas, new coach Bobby Petrino is hoping to have Michigan transfer Ryan Mallett eligible next fall. Citing extenuating circumstances, Arkansas has filed a waiver with the NCAA, asking for Mallett to be eligible immediately. The 6-foot-7 Mallett was recruited to be a drop-back passer for Michigan, but the Wolverines' new coach, Rich Rodriguez, runs a spread offense that favors a more mobile quarterback.

Mallet was mentioned this morning on ESPN "Sports Reporters" saying that his challenging the transfer rule following departure of a head coach is long overdue and should be the standard, after all a coach isn't required to sit out, and they wished Mallet well.

Maybe it ought to still be required for Coach Petrino. [Big Grin]

For Petrino, there ought to be a whole different (and much thicker) rulebook...

As to the lack of JUCOs, that is further evidence of our success at recruiting, nay stockpiling players. We no longer need the "quick fix" because we can rely upon skilled redshirts and even freshmen to fill roster spots.

As they say in math class, "monotonically increasing"... [Big Grin]

Stumped prophet and I was a math major. Had to go to Wikipedia. Simply, very simply, it means in one direction.

Sorry guys. A bit of the old physicist in me slipped out.

I'll try to keep the obscure math nomenclature under wraps in the future.
