Granted we are getting much more speed to play in the SEC but like it or not we only got two 4 star athlete and were at the bottom of the SEC recruting list. We are not there yet and have a ways to go...Grade C

Overall I would give them a C+ if you go by rankings. But we did land a few A players and the B players could turn into A's.

Brandon, here is a full list of all our recruits and their rating. Out of all our recruits only 2 of them are rated as 4 stars, the rest of them are only 3 star and below.

This does not mean it will turn out to be a bad class but it does show we still are not getting the better athletes like the top tier programs and most other SEC schools.

We are still way behind in recruiting which sucks!
I think with what we have recruited we are in hopes for some huge surprises. Anything can happen!

unc, Like you say anything can happen especially when you have good coaching like we have had these past few years. It's the same thing in basketball too. Look at Mississippi State and Vandy, they don't have the top rated recruits and both schools are doing well and should make the NCAA tournament.

Lest we forget: The goal in FB should not be just to have a winning season, qualify for a minor bowl and be satisfied. Unlike Vandy, MSU, Arkansas, even UT, the goal in BB is not to do well, contend for a conference championship and qualify for the NCAA's -- we've had a decade of that.

In both sports the need is the same: top-quality athletes -- those on a par with elite programs -- to settle for less and hope for coaching up and overachieving is already the acceptance of lesser goals.

I guess I look more at potential than ratings. Andre Woodson wasn't a 4 star either. Wesley Woodyard was passed over by several of the top-tier schools. We've all seen the player that was rated as a 2 star beat the daylights out of the 4 star player. Football players are a different breed of athlete. They need to be athletic, but there's a difference between being a great athlete and being a great football player.

I think high school rankings are absolute crap when it comes to the college game. So what if the guys are McDonald's All-Americans (if there is such a thing on football) because those rankings don't tell you what kind of player the kid will be in college. It doesn't even tell you what kind of quality you're getting. I'll take the football player over the athlete anyday.

I did a study and posted it on another site matching the programs that have made the most BCS bowls over the last 5 years with the teams with the highest rated recruiting classes and there's a direct and overwhelming relationship: the teams with the top-rated recruited classes are the teams that make the BCS bowls. Whether you agree with ratings or not, the results are dramatically related. Top players=top teams.

Building a football program is a marathon, not a sprint like in bball. You need 22 starters, no to mention all of the special teams players, who must not make one mistake on the field, execute plays, and be good enough to match up against the competition.

Would you go to a school that has only went to 2 small bowls in the last 15 years, instead of a perennial BCS bowl team, if you were a 5 star recruit? The hill is a very steep climb, to get to the elite of college football.

Well, naturally the best players are going to make the best teams. I just think that there are several players out there that are much better than their rankings suggest. There are also some players that aren't as good as their ranking suggests.

Brandon, of course there are some players that deserve a higher rating and players that deserve lower ratings, that goes without saying. However teams that play with all 4 and 5 star athletes will always have better teams than programs that have 2 and 3 star athletes.

Rating players is far from being a exact science but they have gotten good enough at it that coachs and programs use it during their recruiting process and it seems to work well.

They hit more than they miss, I'll grant you. I'm not saying that the ratings aren't a valuable tool for the coaches because it is.

I guess the whole thing is more subjective to me than others. I would be more willing to take a shot on a kid that I felt good about that was rated a 3 star than a kid that was a 5 star that didn't impress me that much.
