Here is the story from Larry Vaught. Mossakowski has a gun for a arm and will be a special player for us..
Highly-touted Texas quarterback Ryan Mossakowski has verbally committed to the University of Kentucky.
Sources confirmed to The Advocate-Messenger Friday night that Mossakowski, who is rated as a four-star prospect by Scout.com, had told the Kentucky coach staff he would sign with the Wildcats.
The 6-4, 203-pound Mossakowski had recently narrowed his choices to Auburn, Alabama, Texas A&M and Kentucky. The Wildcats were also recruiting four-star quarterback Morgan Newton of Indiana.
Mossakowski threw for 3,029 yards and 19 touchdowns last year and completed 57 percent of his passes with 13 interceptions. He also ran for seven touchdowns.
In his career, he is 567-for-984 passing for 6,088 yards and 36 touchdowns. He has rushed for 539 yards and 18 touchdowns.
He had originally been interested in other schools such as Louisville, Nebraska, Clemson, Tennessee, Colorado and Oregon before it narrowed his list to four schools.
Earlier this summer, he told Scout.com that he was pleasantly surprised when he visited Kentucky.
“Kentucky was just a big surprise. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and them kind of being on the rise,” he said. “They’re hurting for a quarterback, there really looking for someone to come in that can really take over a few years and I think it would be a good opportunity for me.”
Mossakowski, who has a 3.9 grade-point average, planned to make his decision before his season started so he could concentrate on his final year of high school football. That’s one reason he made numerous unofficial visits to schools during the summer even though he was playing on a travel baseball squad
Mossakowski runs the 40-yard dash in 4.8 seconds, but he has been timed in an impressive 4.1 in the shuttle run during his summer workouts. College coaches like his footwork in the pocket and also the velocity and touch he has throwing the football.
“I have to say I've got great vision and great core base mechanics,” Mossakowski told Scout.com earlier this summer. “I see the field well and I'm a playmaker. I'm a big passer and we play a run-and-shoot offense, so I'm always making big plays.”
Mossakowski also fulfills a recruiting need that UK offensive coordinator Joker Phillips said last month the Cats still had.
“We think we have got to sign a big-time running back and a big-time quarterback. There is not a true quarterback in this group (who has verbally committed to Kentucky). We want one of each,” Phillips said.
If the recruiting rankings are right, Kentucky now has that big-time prospect in Mossakowski.

I don't mind saying, I'm shocked! Shocked! To me this is the most impressive commitment certainly in the Brooks era and possibly since the Bryant years. I know Tim Couch was a big get for Cats but he was from Kentucky which gave the home school a significant advantage. To ink maybe the top QB in Texas is the most impressive indication to date of the increased status of UK FB on the national scene. The PR impact among other top prospects alone is priceless. It also is notable for what it says about Joker Phillips' stature as a recruiter, offensive coordinator and future leader of the program. Neither can one overlook the asset of Randy Sanders as mentor of QB's. A great day for the Blue and helps offset some of the negative news of the week. This is huge news for the program. Kentucky is reaping the benefits of stringing back to back bowl victories together. UK is finally starting to look like it can compete in the SEC.

This has to be one big step for Coach Brooks and Coach Phillips. Now to turn it into a signing rather than a commitment will be the next big step.
