Huge get for the cats!!!!!!

And it is KENTUCKY!!!!!

This is another great get for the Cats as he is one of the better Center prospects in the country and a guy a lot of schools were going after hard. Add to that the fact that he is a great in-state prospect and the Cats have to be happy.

And a public kudos to my source on this who kept insisting to me that it was UK, even after nearly every other journalist called it for UVA.

More on Sam Simpson and the fact though he's "only" a 3-Star he is 9th-rated center in the nation;

I found this article while surfing and it points out that Simpson is rated the second best center in the the country by Scout. It really shows how well this class is going to be after just receiving a commitment from Morgan Newton.

I would bet that we will see some highly touted receivers commiting in the future. I think we can safely say that the future of Kentucky football is as it's been in a long time if not ever..

The 6-foot-4, 292-pound Simpson is ranked as the nation's No. 2 center by Scout.com and is No. 9 according to Rivals.com. Both recruiting services have listed him as a three-star recruit. Simpson chose the Wildcats over Vanderbilt and Virginia, and he also had offers from Auburn, Tennessee and at least 20 other schools.

“I just wanted to feel comfortable, and the comfort level I had with all the coaches played a big part in my decision,” Simpson said.

Simpson's dad, Sam Sr., is the head football coach at Henry Clay, and his older brother, Salin, will be playing at Georgetown College this fall.

Simpson's announcement comes on the heels of the commitment of four-star Texas quarterback Ryan Mossakowski, who chose UK on Friday. The Wildcats are also a finalist for another four-star quarterback, Morgan Newton of Carmel, Ind.

The Cats could wrap up their 2009 recruiting class soon. They've already secured 15 commitments and are expected to be a few scholarships short of the limit of 25.

Of their 15 commitments, nine are three-star recruits with Mossakowski being a four-star guy.

“I feel like Kentucky's on the rise,” Simpson said. “As long as we keep winning games and getting top-notch guys, we'll be fun to watch for the next five or six years.”

Just curious how the first or second rated player at his position (Simpson), can only be a three star recruit. Granted I know next to nothing about rankings and stars but I thought the stars were tied to where you ranked in your position. I guess not.

KC, Good question, i have looked to see if i could find a center with a rating higher than 3 stars for a center but i can not. That doesn't mean their isn't any out there however.

I do think ratings are not as high on centers as they are on QB's, RB's etc. however.

Here is a rating on a center from Notre Dame that came to them very highly rated and as you can see he too is 3 stars..
