STOP THE RUN!!!!!!!!

For all the hypothesizing the University of Louisville football team has done while preparing for Kentucky, the Cardinals have a degree of certainty about the Wildcats' running game.

UK's stable of running backs -- Tony Dixon, Derrick Locke and Alfonso Smith -- are the known quantities among question marks elsewhere and are considered to be the strength of the offense.

"They shared the load last year, but these guys all have experience -- big-game experience," U of L coach Steve Kragthorpe said. "We know they're going to come in and try to establish the run."

The ground game has been especially important in claiming the Governor's Cup. In every game since 2002, the winning team's leading rusher has outrushed the entire losing team.

UK's Rafael Little ran for 151 yards last season, and the Cats totaled 185 yards on the ground. U of L rushers combined for 101 yards.

It has simplified U of L's defensive goal heading into Sunday's 3:30 p.m. game in Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.

"Coach (defensive coordinator Ron English) has definitely been like, 'Stop the run (and) everything will fall in place,' " sophomore safety Latarrius Thomas said.

The trend of a single rusher outgaining a team might change this season, if only because more runners are likely to touch the ball.
