Is there in game chat? I'm very disappointed in Joker right now. I thought this to be a defining game for him. I assume Fidler could at least hold on to the ball. Second time this season Hartline let the ball "slip". Looks like we will get our a** kicked.

My concern going in to this game was not a win, respectability maybe, but most of all no season-affecting injuries. Next couple of games more important.

We look like the old "can't get a break" program. Our defense is in no way living to its rank. Offense is terrible. Looks like a blowout. i just didn't want our kids confidence ruined. long season. Whoh! Fumble Alabama. Go Cats!!!!

Joker was named "next coach" in off-season, and is still also offensive coordinator. This performance really bothers me. The offense doesn't have a clue, which means Joker doesn't have a clue.

Come on, guys. Last year, Joker was King of All He Surveyed, a master offensive genius.

Do you think he forgot how to coach?

Until we get the players that can play like the six we lost last year, Joker won't look nearly as good. When we do, however (and year-after-next looks to be the ticket), Joker will again be "King of all he surveys", and lauded as a genius.

Oh, and he might just be Head Coach by then!

So, should we name Andre Woodson head coach? My point is, do with the talent you have. We are trying to gain respectibility in the SEC.

That last Hartline pass behind Grinter is perfect example. We need Hartline badly. He just will not deliver. he must get better or go Fidler. At least he hasn't dropped the ball.

While I agree regarding getting the talent needed, I was never enamored with Phillips' play calling even when Cats were going 8-5. There were numerous times last year when innovation and creativity were missing and predictability was evident. Never thought of him as a "genius", certainly not "King of all he surveys". As far as naming him coach-in-waiting I disagreed at the time but hope future proves me wrong.

I think the best player for Kentucky, Lindley, just got beat by their true freshman. That was a coaching thus timing move. We can't beat them unless we make major adjustments. So will ALA. It just doesn't seem like we are playing smart.

Another stupid play by Cats. 4th down/ Joker, I hope you have more than this.

Posted by Ron (Member # 2948) on 10-04-2008, 04:12 PM:

Definitely goong to have to find some kind of offense. Alabama will not be shutout by anyone. At least we did not give up 31 pts like Ga. Anything can happen.

14-0 at half, that is 17 points better than UGA at Athens.

Posted by Max Beasley (Member # 1320) on 10-04-2008, 04:20 PM:

When you look at it, we gave them 7 on what may have been a big play for us because we were throwing into the vacated area due to the blitz. The first 7 they got by with a hold though that was a short hold the hand was outside and Peters couldnt get a arm out...I'll live with the first 7 but all in all our defense has played well, and Maxwell should have had a pick 6 that ended up being caught by their guy. Add to all that the fact ford dropped an easy first down that would have continued to move the chains and we've not played that well and are still in it. If we can get something on the board in the third, then its on!

Bama has a recent history of not playing as well in second half so that's hopeful. On the other hand Cats D has been on field a lot so fatigue could be a factor. I'm watching Texas Tech-KSU split screen and as for future head coaches, I suggest Mike Leach of the #7 TT Red Raiders: they have 23 first downs, 417 yards and lead 38-14... at the half! And they don't have any more talent than UK, possibly less.

Max, If our Kentucky Wildcats see it the same as you, then By Gosh we do have a chance. As I stated when starting this thread, I just want our kids to keep their confidence. Not happy with Joker though. And as said earlier, Hartline has lost the ball in passing mode twice this season now. What's up with THAT??????

We desperately need offense to start the second half.

Posted by Brandon (Member # 108) on 10-04-2008, 04:38 PM:

Hartline is really pressing right now. He needs to get into a rhythm with his passing. Alabama's points came from UK mistakes, not because they earned them by their offense beating UK's defense.

I think UK should run the screen passes, then they should run the screen passes, then they should run the screen passes, then they should run, then they should throw it deep, then they should run the screen passes.

Prophet, you should know Joker is contracted as ou future coach. I'd like his offensive "genius" to show here, though.

I'm well aware of the announced agreement but doesn't mean one can't speculate or hope.

Hartline looks like a Wus, not a leader.

Posted by Brandon (Member # 108) on 10-04-2008, 04:59 PM:

Maybe, but he doesn't have any time to throw the ball either.

Posted by catlogic15 (Member # 1227) on 10-04-2008, 05:07 PM:

With Hartline, we probably will not win another SEC game. He has, and does, look that bad. What a shame, with this great defense.
Joker, you have disappointed hundreds of thousands of fans.

Posted by ALA_KAT2 (Member # 1559) on 10-04-2008, 05:08 PM:

I was hoping to see more out of Hartline and our O-Line. Both are pathetic so far. Hartline needs to learn to make something out of nothing, and he looks like a deer in the headlights.

I also wonder why Joker does not run more on the outside as our inside runs are stuffed repeatedly (by everyone, not just AL).

Gonna be a long SEC season unless we get better in a hurry on Offense.

Posted by ALA_KAT2 (Member # 1559) on 10-04-2008, 05:11 PM:

I guess all I had to do was bad-mouth Hartline. He threw two short passes with long runs by Locke and Lyons afterward

AND WE SCORE!!!!!

14-7 al

Complexion changed, hopefully a bit of confidence -- even for us fans -- Bama playing up to their 2nd half reputation. Good downfield blocking.

Posted by ALA_KAT2 (Member # 1559) on 10-04-2008, 05:17 PM:

The downfield blocking on Lyons run after pass was perfect. Would have missed it except for the CBS replay. 3 key blocks freed him.

WHAT A CATCH BY GRINTER!

BEST HANDS ON THE WHOLD TEAM.

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 10-04-2008, 05:19 PM:

Just when we get a great first down to Grinter, we throw an interception.

Bad, bad timing. Took the mojo right out us following our TD and good defensive stand.

Posted by ALA_KAT2 (Member # 1559) on 10-04-2008, 05:19 PM:

We had the MO but the interception killed it. Underthrow by Hartline. Ill-advised pass with two defenders right there.

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 10-04-2008, 05:22 PM:

BTW, I am one PISSED OFF Kentucky fan. Our local CBS affiliate refused to continue their contract with Time-Warner cable. They want some cash for their free broadcasts. [Mad]

So, I am resigned to listening to the game on Yahoo! and getting the scoop from you folks on TCD.

Now, Bama sounds like they are ramming it down our throat. Defensive line showing signs of fatigue?

Posted by ALA_KAT2 (Member # 1559) on 10-04-2008, 05:25 PM:

Tiptree, we just stopped a running play for -2 yardage, I think it's 3rd and 6. 3rd Qtr just ended.

The D-line is looking just a little tired right now. Every now and then Bama will get Coffeee thru the line for big gains.

We need to hold them to at least a field goal try here.

Posted by catlogic15 (Member # 1227) on 10-04-2008, 05:25 PM:

Horrible read by Hartline. Like I said, might not win another game with him. What a shame, considering all the other talent we have. Why not have Fidler for a series? Hartline is freaking terrible!!!!! Game was entrusted to him, and he throws into double coverage??????????

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 10-04-2008, 05:27 PM:

The stats sound promising this second half. Offensively, in the second quarter, we double them in yardage. Now, if we can just get the ball back and do it again!

A block and a TD return would be very timely right now!

Dicky! First Down!

Posted by ALA_KAT2 (Member # 1559) on 10-04-2008, 05:32 PM:

Lyons is a gamer, one tough competitor.

Looks like Brooks has given up on Dixon after his horrible first series.

Dixon just cannot be trusted to hold on to the ball even when he does gain yardage.

Posted by catlogic15 (Member # 1227) on 10-04-2008, 05:37 PM:

Yes, but we need a Quarterback that just doesn't see Dickey!!!!!!

Masthay has improved so much from his Freshman and Sophomore years punting the ball.

When he was a freshman, he was pretty bad.

Now, he's one of the best in the SEC.

Mathay is one of our better weapons!

Posted by ALA_KAT2 (Member # 1559) on 10-04-2008, 05:40 PM:

I sure would like to bring in Cobb right now and run the option a time or two. We just can't get our speedy backs any room to run.

Hartline all season long has looked like he's afraid to make a mistake.

Posted by ALA_KAT2 (Member # 1559) on 10-04-2008, 05:42 PM:

Alabama trying to grind it out right now. They may be ready to bust one.

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 10-04-2008, 05:43 PM:

ALA_KAT2,

The radio guys were just discussing Cobb's injury. Sounds like there is no way to get him in today -- they took his helmet away!

As to Hartline, I think his cautiousness is a direct reflection of what he has been asked to do -- not lose the game for us. As the season progresses, I look for him to be more aggressive, but not today.

Posted by ALA_KAT2 (Member # 1559) on 10-04-2008, 05:45 PM:

Yes, I knew Cobb could not play today, but he could be an option later in the season. If nothing else, we sure could use his talent at wide receiver as it looks like no one other than Lyons or Grinter can catch a ball.

Posted by ALA_KAT2 (Member # 1559) on 10-04-2008, 05:49 PM:

Bad break on the fumble by Coffee. David Jones could not corral the ball.

Looking bad. Ala with the ball on the 12 with first down.

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 10-04-2008, 05:52 PM:

We had Coffee stuffed at the 47, but he spins and dives for the 4th down conversion. Then we miss the possible fumble recovery. Now, it looks to be another Bama TD is on the way.

Two chances, missed.

Bullsh*t call on the offsides on KY's #95.

His hand MAY have been in the neutral zone, couldn't tell from the replay.

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 10-04-2008, 05:53 PM:

Another 4th down. Will 'Bama go for it just to break our morale?

Posted by ALA_KAT2 (Member # 1559) on 10-04-2008, 05:55 PM:

All they need is a FG to ice the outcome.

I think they kick it, if for no other reason than to put some confidence back into thier FG kicker.

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 10-04-2008, 05:55 PM:

Like I said earlier, a blocked FG, coupled with a return for a TD, would be mighty timely... [Big Grin]

'Bama goes for it!

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 10-04-2008, 05:57 PM:

Interesting ploy. Take the delay of game penalty to get a better angle for the FG?

Posted by ALA_KAT2 (Member # 1559) on 10-04-2008, 05:58 PM:

KY did a good job of not jumping offsides there when it looked like Bama was going to try to run it.

Field goal try is Good. Alabama leads 17-7

Good game for the KY 'D' considering the offense could not keep them off the field much.

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 10-04-2008, 05:59 PM:

Bama goes up 17-7; 2 minutes left.

Not much of a chance for UK now. Only a quick TD and a squibb recovery -- an outside chance if ever there was one.

Oh well. Bombs away, Hartline!

Posted by prophet (Member # 2089) on 10-04-2008, 06:02 PM:

Very competitive performance and with a couple of different bounces, who knows. Defense has to be exhausted. Is it possible that Cats lose but move up in polls? Playing #2 to standoff should impress some voters.

Hartline's execution on the screen plays is terrible. I'm glad he's not throwing interceptions but for once I'd like to see him scramble and make something out of it.

He's not finding the secondary receivers, but that's probably common for a young QB with little game experience.

Posted by ALA_KAT2 (Member # 1559) on 10-04-2008, 06:03 PM:

Another throw-away by Hartline. Come on, someone has got to be open; he just does not find the secondary receiver.

Deep ball to Ford! TOUCHDOWN!

Ford is down in the endzone. Hope he is OK!

WOW! It happend again. I bad-mouth Hartline and next thing you know he finds Ford for a 40-yd TD play.

17-14 ALA

40 sec to go. Onside kick coming up.

17-14. Who'da thunk it.

Can we execute the squibb?

Can we execute the squibb?

Nada

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 10-04-2008, 06:09 PM:

No, we can NOT execute the squibb.

Great game for the cats. No, make that a GREAT game. UK's defense is the real thing. UK's offense is improving (but it needs a LOT more improvement).

Things are looking very, very bright for the rest of the season.

Our defense outplayed theirs. Without the goal line fumble by Harline in the first Qtr, who knows?

I'm proud of the Cats' heart in this one.

Prophet, their FIFTH wideout is better than any we have outside of Dicky. Michael Crabtree is a beast at WR, and their QB is the real deal. Don't knock Texas Tech. They've got a LOT of talent, mostly from Texas and Oklahoma.

I disagree on the wideout skills. Crabtree is the only 4-Star and above WR. It's the Leach system that makes ordinary receivers into accomplished players. Happens season in, season out. The WR's, Crabtree notwithstanding, were not highly recruited. The same is true of QB's. It would be interesting to see UK's young WR's in the Leach system, IMO they would excel by their sophomore season.

Agreee that Coach Leach is a great offensive Coach, but his teams generally have no defense and we've been there before--with Coach Mumme.

Great showing by our guys today...and no injuries (except maybe Ford). One reason I gave the cats a shot today was I didnt believe Wilson could beat us and to be honest Maxwell and Lindley both had dropped picks. Seems to always be just a handful of plays, like Jones not getting the fumble or the off sides -by a couple inches by Jenkins. Needless to say, SC is a big one and we'll need everybody back that was out today...Go Cats!

Obviously, Coach Leach's teams are offensively dominated but their defensive numbers are misleading because their offense scores so often and so quickly thus TOP nearly always favors opponents and gives them multiple offensive opportunities. This year in particular their defense is notably improved.
