I have never seen that many empty seats in Neyland Stadium, even in bad weather.

As usual, our offense is getting us in trouble early in the 2d qtr

bayer, are you as tired as I am of watching Cobb run in the wrong direction? Sacks

We will not win this game with Cobb dropping back to pass.

The problem is UT's offense will not stay this bad all night, but ours will and our defense cannot hold up for as many possessions as UT will get.

I'm so damn sick of Joker Phillips.

Who calls a SHOTGUN HB SWEEP FROM THE THREE YARD LINE???

He's ASKING to get a safety there! Line up under center, I form, and RUN THE DAMN BALL!!!

Run the speed option. Run the ball with Dixon. THEN go play action up top. Stop lining up in the gun against this D and thinking you're going to pick them apart.

How damn stupid is this man? I'm sorry, I do NOT want him as our coach. A chimp could draw playcalls from a hat and do a better damn job!!!

When you come out of a byeweek, you are supposed to CHANGE your tendencies when you have one. We have one--shotgun, three wide, run up the middle with Cobb and throw short. They're ready for it, and we're running it. We will never advance as a top program if this man continues to run the same damn plays every series, every game, every year.

Our defensive players quit on a play when we had the running back almost tackled at the 12. Now Tenn has it 3rd and goal at the 1 yd line.

jsence2-I will remind you this is the same Coach Phillips who 4 years ago was asked to become the Offensive Coordinator the week before the UT game and nearly pulled it out. The difference--players. We had them then, we don't now.

I guess if you give them 6 tries from inside the 5 yard line they are bound to make a TD.

7-3 Tennessee at the half. Our offense is pitiful this game and the defense is starting to bend and break.

Let's hope we can get something going the 2nd half.

No, the difference is, his offense was NEW then. It wasn't what we had done every week before then.

Now, people know what's coming, and it's easy to stop what you know is coming. He has no huevos, he refuses to let the offense go down the field. It's all dink and dunk. No running plays except the same shotgun read plays and draws.

It would be great if our offense could make something happen, but we just don't have the playmakers or the ones we do have are in the wrong position.

jsence-Sorry, but you are being unreasonable. Just look at the playmakers we had on that team and look at the team now. This team just does not have the receivers, the running backs or the QBs. It's obvious.

I think you're both right. WE don't have near the quality of offensive players we had last year, but on the other hand, Joker is still running the same plays that worked with the better players. Maybe he needs to change things up to capitalize more on the players we currently have. The pro style attack that he likes to run does not work with this team.

Based on what you've seen this season, what is it we have to capitalize on?

We don't have a QB who can throw a good pass.

We don't have receivers who can catch it even if he does.

We don't have RBs who can get outside and run and don't have the strength to run up inside against SEC teams.

We don't have an offensive line to give the QB or RBs time to do their thing.

In this case, it's really not the Coach. I'm not saying he should be Head Coach, but the sins he is being accused of are not deserved.

Joker calls the same ten plays on offense.

Two of them work a ton.

And if he runs those plays more than once per game, we seem to do well.

Unfortunately, he calls about four of those plays nonstop, and teams know what to look for.

Don't forget, regardless of what he calls, the QB has the option to check out at the line of scrimmage and Randy Sanders also can check out of the play. You see a lot of that happening.

No, Joker tells them to check off to another play. He sends the call down to Sanders, who relays it. If he sees something he doesn't like, he checks off....to a draw, a QB run, a screen, or a quick dump-off. It's the same crap, over and over, and I'm SICK of it. Our defense deserves better, they play their butts off but our offense does nothing to help them.

and if we don't get some offense going here and get some points on this next drive, we might as well start preparing for a trip to Shreveport. This next series is gut-check time.

This is just not a very good team. But they still won 6 games which is more than most expected.

They need to put in Mike Hartline and let him start winging it. Whatever happens, happens.

No. They don't.

If we put in Hartline, we might as well turn the channel. He's poison to this offense. He makes horrible decisions, he won't throw more than five yards downfield, and he has no mobility.

If Hartline starts "winging it", our offense won't go three and out....they'll throw interceptions, one and out.

Jesus. How stupid is Joker?

We're playing one of the fastest defenses in the SEC.

And he keeps trying to attack them LATERALLY! Does he not grasp simple offense ideologies??? SERIOUSLY.

Thank God for Cobb's legs....reason #1 that Hartline should not step off the pine pony.

Gee, we lined up under center and gained three or four yards, on a play where UT loaded up.

Hmmm....wonder if we may do that again?

And lookie there....we start lining up in a running formation and we start moving the ball!

Are you KIDDING ME?!?!?!

You run the speed option with a POWER BACK???

Moncell Allen is a north-south runner. Not an outside in-space runner. That play should be run with Alfonso Smith or maybe Dixon....not ALLEN.

I can't take this anymore.

4th and 2, what do we do? We do the same thing we have done almost every time we've had this situation this year--run Cobb to his NON THROWING SIDE out of the gun.

Tennessee read it imemdiately and shut it down.

We've started moving the ball from the I-Form, and he takes him and puts him in the gun on 4th and two, which immediately takes away the threat of the run up the middle, as we can't do it from the gun. He has already tipped part of his hand to the defense by doing this. He then runs his QB to where he can't really throw last-second if something opens up, sideways against a fast defense that isn't worrying about the run up the middle.

I'm sorry, but nothing you can say, Bayer, can defend the bonehead calls he makes in key situations. I could coach this offense better than he could.

Btw, he DOES know that when he becomes coach, he won't get to sit up in the box and read the defense from above, right???

I'm not trying to defend his play calling. I'm just stating as fact that this team does not have the quality of players we have had in the past and even those we did have this year are now hurt. You can't lay that on the Coach. It's amazing how good a coach you can be with great players. Ask Phillip Fulmer.

I think it's a sad situation when your starting QB has to also field punts. I know he is the most talented on the team, but come on, there hs to be some other guys who can do this well.
What about Windston Guy? What happened to him. Or is he just used to run back kickoffs?

I don't buy that.

When Joker has actually taken CHANCES downfield and not tried to dink and dunk, we've done WELL--see the second half of the Bama game, the last five minutes of the Arkansas game, and other times this year.

Joker just refuses to show some intelligence and relies on the same plays in the same situations, and well-coached teams will be READY for those plays. He has to learn that you have to run a play they expect at a time that they WON'T expect it, and run a play that plays off a play they expect in a certain situation--like on that 4th and 2, run Cobb right, then swing back to the left for a WR screen....if you saw the UT defense, they all went hard towards Cobb.

Great....Hartline is in.

I pray we can run the ball enough to keep him from throwing much.

And again, we go I-form and we move the ball. Betcha in crunch time, he goes back to the gun like an idiot.

And Hartline just short-hopped a 15 yard pass to a wide open man.

Yep, he's much better than Cobb.

I don't see much difference between this series and the last two series with Cobb at QB. At least it wasn't worse.

Actually, Cobb has a VERY strong arm. He's shown that when he's been given the chance.

Here's an idea--run a rolling pocket play. Roll the pocket to the left and give him more time to look downfield. The defense will have to guard against his running ability, which will help people get open. It also buys him another few seconds as half the defensive pass rush will have to go further to get to him.

Then again, I think that may be too complicated for Joker to comprehend.

He may have the arm, but he doesn't have the accuracy or the O-Line.
