Three straight winning seasons that included bowl victories obviously have upgraded the perception of the Kentucky football program.

The Wildcats signed 29 players Wednesday and had the nation's 32nd-best recruiting class based on rankings by Scout.com. That's the highest a Kentucky signing class has ever been ranked.

Yet Kentucky coach Rich Brooks knows not to get overly excited, especially since four other Southeastern Confernce Eastern Division teams once again had higher ranked recruiting classes.

"To me, it's just another step in the process of trying to build a program. Kentucky has had blips of success, blips of success and then fallen back and fallen back. We don't want to fall back, and this class should put this program in great shape moving forward," said Brooks.

That's because Kentucky has never had as many highly-touted players in any recruiting class as it does this year.

"There are probably more (recruiting) stars behind their names than in some of the past classes, but I will again remind some that a couple of guys that played pretty well for us by the names of Wesley Woodyard and Trevard Lindley had two or less stars when they came in here," Brooks said.

According to one source, UK's class ranks 11 out the 12 SEC schools.

So, UK's best class EVER is pretty lousy compared to our competition. Getting ahead in the SEC is an monumental task...

The magnitude of this is unbelieveable! Think about it, "the best class ever" and we are at the the bottom of our conferance!

I bet a lot of teams would trade Kentucky's recruiting class for theirs in a heartbeat.

Brooks said that Wesley Woodyard and Trevard Lindley were 2 star rated or lower, coming in. No matter how high players are rated, they still need coaches who can develop them into polished big time collegiate players.

As for the offense, that had been a dissapointment last season, UK had 2 great QBs, a highly rated TE, very talented RBs, and a 6'5" juco receiver with 4.5 speed that will hep jump start them.

The only big star to come out of Lexington, Sam Simpson, is rated the #3 center in the country. He may be able to see the field this season. That is huge, because this team is not dereft of talent, the way it was, when Brooks arrived. UK and Brooks have rebuilt the team by redshirting the players that need to bulk up and get stronger, even when they were having losing seasons.

This team not only got submarined by losing its best QB, before the season started, but lost its best 2 offensive weopons in the middle of the season, in Locke and Lyons.

It has taken a long time, but UK is slowly building a team that will have competition at every position.
