You can't help but to like this new cat that has faced adversity his whole live.
Ridge Wilson doesn't mind speaking his mind, even when it comes to the tough topics.
The Central High School senior will tell you all about the father he's never met, the drugs he's seen come in and out of his home, the anger issues that landed him in the Jefferson County Youth Center -- a detention center for kids -- at the age of 10.
He'll tell you how it's all led him to where he is today -- an 18-year-old just a few months away from earning his high school diploma and heading to the University of Kentucky on a football scholarship.
"Ninety percent of life is what you go through, and the other 10 percent is how you deal with it," Wilson said. "I go through problems; everybody else goes through problems. That's going to be my motivation."
Wilson, a 6-foot-4 215-pounder, is motivated this week to lead Central to another state championship. He already has helped the Yellowjackets capture back-to-back Class 3-A football titles, and tonight he'll lead his basketball team into the National City Sweet 16 at Rupp Arena for the second straight year.

I have been hearing and reading alot about this kid lately regarding his football scholarship. Has anyone heard if there is any chance that he might also play basketball while he's at UK? Sounds like he might be a great asset to the basketball team.

I went to the Sweet 16 last week and watched Ridge play all week. What a tremendous athlete, but an even better person. He was the example of class, determination, and how sports should be played that any father would be proud to have called son. It's a shame his father wasn't around to see it. He was even given an award between the semi-finals and finals I believe for his sportsmanship.
As for the basketball prospect he was a very good high school player, 6'4" 215 and a physical specimen, but he plays all on the interior. He wouldn't be able to play that position at UK and he doesn't handle the ball or shoot from the outside.
