I wouldn't have beleived it but it looks like Newton may start at QB for the Auburn Game.
However the one big story of the early part of the week continues to be the Quarterback situation for this Saturday’s game. I have spoken with multiple sources, all of whom say the same thing…the team believes that Morgan Newton will be the starter and are proceeding with that in mind. There has been some talk that Will Fidler was told that Newton would start and that the team was given the official word, but I cant confirm that beyond the speculation. However I do know that multiple sources on the team believe it will be Newton and that is the operating assumption.
While we have debated which player would be better to start, it is important to remember one other factor. The players on the team are very close to Fidler. Most of the players, especially the older guys, are friends with Will and there was a sentiment around the team that they were very excited that one of the more popular players on the team was going to “get his chance” to finally make it. If Newton ends up being the call, it will be interesting to watch how the game develops. Morgan will have to show leadership and convince his team that he has all the qualities that they hope to see in their young leader. In addition, the worry about Newton has been his ability to know the plays. More than one person has talked about how his system in high school allowed him to do his own thing and that the UK system has been a challenge. He will have to showcase that mastery of the system on Saturday to succeed and give the Cats a chance at a victory.
While the word isnt official that Newton is the guy, most everyone believes he will be. If that changes, it could give Fidler the chance to work without scrutiny…that would be good. But if it is Newton, the new era officially begins. And heres hoping Morgan is ready for that challenge.

The rumors that Newton will start on Saturday are gainging steam and momentum across the net. It will be interesting to see if this is just some self perpetuating hoax of a story or if it is close to the facts.

If Newton starts, expect a sloppy, but exciting game. I personally hope he does, as the sooner he gets game experience, the better our long-term outlook becomes. He is most certainly a talented run/pass QB -- think Cobb with a better arm.
Short term, however, it would take a miracle for him to lead us to victory against Auburn in his first college game...
I have read here and elsewhere that the team has bonded with Fidler over the last few seasons, and there may be trouble in the ranks if Newton does get the nod. Let's hope our guys are above that, but they ARE mainly teenagers...

Tip (tree not ton),
I have hear the possible discension in the ranks stuff too.
I just hope that is we start Newton, it is to let him run with it and see what he can do. I hope it is not a case of sticking him in and then when things go bad putting in Fidler. That would just burn Newtons redshirt. I hope that if they go with Newton, they are committed to it for the long haul.

The thing is, if Fidler could not beat out Hartline then he is not the man to lead us to the next level. Morgan Newton has as good a chance of beating Auburn as Fidler. He is by far the better athlete and can gain ground with his feet, something neither Fidler nor Hartline can do.
Sometimes a busted play by a great athlete is better than what a normal QB can produce within the offense.
Sooner or later Newton is going to be the UK quarterback.......it might as well be sooner.

Newton is the QB of the future i think we pretty much can agree with that. It seems to make more sense to get him started now as we sure arn't setting the world on fire so far. It looks like he will start and the coachs are keeping it low key for reasons only known to them...

I think Newton is our future. I just hope he can handle an SEC game. It would have been nice to get him some experience against a "lesser" opponent. But no matter what Coach Brooks decides, I will support his decision. If the young man wasn't ready, I don't think Coach B would play him.

Newton is looking good early on in the Auburn game. Long way to go, but so far, so good.

Wouldn't you know his first series is great and he takes them down to the 20 yard line and they block our field goal attempt and run it back for a touchdown. Welcome to Kentucky football Morgan...
