Hopefully he will have second thoughts and stay another year!

Mitch Barnhart gave a couple of interviews today in which he said that he really hopes Rich Brooks stays on for another year. I was told by someone close to the situation at the Bowl game that Rich wanted to make his decision by December 31. That was when the assumption was that he would not return. While I still think that is likely, if we dont hear anything by tomorrow, then it could be a sign of Rich having second thoughts.

No word yet on Brooks' final decision.

bd, he was supposed to meet with Barnhart early this week and if we haven't heard anything since then i would think it has to be a good sign. I believe the open recruting starts on the January 6th so we probably should hear before then.

Kind of have mixed feelings, would like for him to have another year if he wants it but also like to see Joker get started as he has waited for his chance..

I listened to the announcement and he is retiring like you said Ed. He is a great coach and will be missed but he left the program in good shape.

He just announced he has decided to step away.

He wants the football facilities to be improved and he has really enjoyed his stay at Kentucky. He felt he did not feel he finished the job and there is more to do.

He thinks a younger man would help the program and it's a good time to walk away.

The transition is a good time and hopes the fans and the powers to be will support the program to get it to the next level. He is going to stay around to watch the Cats and watch them progress..

Joker better have one hulluva offensive coordinator in mind.

He feels the Cats are close to breaking into the top 25 and the program is in good shape but it could go either way being in the tough SEC conferance.

He will be at Joker's disposal and would be glad to help in any way he can.

He believes patience is needed with coachs and believes the powers to be will helped in this matter. He said he had great coachs to help him get to where we are.

He is proud of going to 4 straight bowls but would have liked to have done better with winning more SEC games.

He believes in Joker and says he lives and breathes Kentucky football and has a great coaching staff.

Rich Brooks is a good man and one hell of a coach. He did at UK what no other coach since Bear Bryant could do. He gave UK a name and a face on the national scene. UK is no longer the whipping boy of the league.

Rich got UK to the point where they can stand on their feet and go out and play with any team. It's going to be up to Joker to take UK to the next step up the ladder and make them national contenders.

Thanks Coach Brooks. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.

In his 7 years at Kentucky he ended up with a 39-47 record.

Hell, it took him 3 years to unmuck all the crap that was in the program before he got here. Hal Mumme really put him behind the 8-ball when he first arrived. His last 4 seasons were the real telling of what he could achieve at UK.

From what UK was before Brooks got here to where they are now is leaps and bounds better.

Well, I mean what did you expect? Don't you think the program is in much better shape now then it was 7 years ago?

Numbers tell a lot about a program but they don't tell everything.

11-25 in the past 5 years. Well, 10 of those losses come from 2 teams in UT and Florida. I wonder how the rest of the SEC has fared against Florida and UT in the last 5 years? Another 5 against South Carolina and Steve Spurrier. Something that sticks in my craw more than anything else.

But, he got UK to the number 8 ranking in the nation and he beat the number 1 team in the nation. 4 straight bowl games for a program that has never been to 4 straight bowl games before ever.

That's not nothing.

Besides, I guess he accomplished his goal of leaving the program in much better shape than when he found it.

Football takes a lot longer to build than basketball, especially if their is a lot of talent missing. Guy Morris signed o offensive linemen, while at UK. Brooks had to redshirt guys and build it slowly. He did a tremendous job, imho. From the rumors that I have heard, with the upgrade of CWS, Joker will have a bright future. I hope he can land a marquee RB that is big and fast. I think that he is set at QB, but desperately needs to bring in stud RB that can start from day one. The Cats used to bring in RBs, during the Curci and Claiborne eras.

Is it definite that Joker will be the next head coach?

Brandon he was 14-20 in the SEC in his last 4 years which wasn't bad playing in the SEC but we still have work do to break even in the SEC.

PC, Jokers the man!

No doubt about it, UK still has a way to go before they can start throwing their weight around in the SEC.

What I'm saying is look at the condition of the program when Curry left, when Mumme left, when Morriss left, and when Brooks took over. Hell, Bill Curry did well to win 14 games the entire time he was at UK. Mumme recruited offense only, and Morriss was inept to put things where they needed to be and bolted for Baylor. He took the money and literally ran.

Considering what condition the program was in when Brooks took over to the condition of the program when be retired, UK is in decent shape. I don't mean to say that they will be national champs or even SEC champs in the next couple of years, but they now have a solid foundation in which to build their program. Brooks could have left Joker with a lot less to work with than he did.

UK was a win over UT away from finishing second in the SEC East... from getting a New Year's Day Bowl game. Next season, they need to be a successful as they were this year and add a little more to it. Their realistic goal next season should be to win at least 8 games and make it to a January 1 bowl game. I think that is reasonable and very doable for this team next season and it's because of Brooks that they are able to have that kind of goal be a realistic goal to reach.
