I am almost afraid to post about Fball 'cause everybody on these Fball boards are sooo touchy about there favorite players, etc.
Something I haven't seen discussed at all (somewhat to my surprise even at this early date):
What new directions will our new HC go in?
I mean on the field, offense/defense, not who will he try to schedule home and homes with, etc.
Maybe folks are too afraid to talk about "New Directions" on the field because it implies a change in the status quo for certain players?
You all know that a new HC is gonna put HIS stamp on the Program, even if he has been around for a while.
I for one look for a couple of the new RB/Athletes/TE's to potentially crack the starting lineup this season. A couple of guys on defense. That little scat back we got could be a real sleeper.

Not sure which board you are talking about, but about the only college football player people here get all 'touchy' about is Tim Tebow!
I fully expect some changes in the way the game is played, who plays, etc. And I am looking forward to it, because I feel that Joker will be an outstanding head coach.
My gut feeling is that Mossokowski will win the QB competition, and we will go back to the same type of offensive scheme that we used to such great effect when Woodson was a QB. Moving "the Turtle" to FB will be an interesting change -- given his stature, he should definitely be able to take the legs out of most LBs and open some holes for the RB. But I think we will see a renewal of the importance of the TE in the passing game, more deep pass plays, and a good run/pass balance.

I was never sold on Woodson. I think he was not very accurate. Most of his yards were because he had outstanding talent at receiver. There were alot of short passes, and the yards came after the catch.
My concern w/ Joker is we will have short passes and the receivers haven't been creating much after the catch. Subsequently yardage has been low. Now, With Randy calling plays things may change. Hopefully we can stretch field. The defenses have been stacking on us/playing close to line of scrimmage.

It would be great to stretch the field with some intermediate to down field passes but we have to remember we need a good offensive line to give our passers some time to throw. These defensive lines in the SEC have made it extremely to do that in the past. [ 03-11-2010, 08:57 AM: Message edited by: catmandoo ]

I just feel like we need to control time of possesion as much as possible given our weakness against the run. So, I guess I favor a short passing game. I haven't felt like we had much in the WR dept over the past couple of seasons either. Hey, maybe this Moss' kid will light'em up.

I don't know why anyone would think that Woodson was not accurate, but he was a hell of a pocket QB and was oneof the key reaseon UK beat #1 LSU a few years back.
If we are talking about accuracy of a pocket passer, Hartline is the one that I am least enthused about starting for the Cats. He has had a history of off target throws that are high, low, wide, wobbly, and late. He isn't much of a scrambler, either.
Newton is big and strong and can run the ball as well as pass. He has a strong arm and was not very accurate. I expect him to start, but I am wondering if his accuracy will take a big jump this season.
Mossokowski was the #2 rated pro style QB coming out of high school who had a gun for an arm. I have seen video of him hitting his targets dead in the chest, every time he threw the ball. He was recovering from surgery last year. No college experience. He will get his shot. But, will he be game enough to show that he deserves time over Newton and Harline? I am thinking that he will play a quarter a game, with Newton carrying the most of the load.
All of that could be blown out of the water, if Hartline comes out an kicks butt. We will see.
As for changes in direction, there are many. Joker will not call the O plays anymore. He shook up his staff to get better recruiters, which should pay dividens this upcoming recruiting season. He hired Rock oliver and a nutritionist to improve the conditioning. He hired his own man for director of operations. Say what you want, but he has put guys around him he trusts and is injecting more enthusiasm into the program. I have heard 2 points of view from fans, one that he will do well and the other that he will last a few years. I believe that he will do very well and that UK will go to a better bowl this season.
