One of the true icons of football, and a former UK football star, George Blanda has died. His career took off when the AFL was created in 1960 and his exploits when he was with the Raiders were legendary. He also was a very fine kicker.
I'm not sure, but I think that he played for Bear Bryant before Babe Parilli, the All American quarterback. While the Babe may have been the better college quarterback, there is little doubt that Blanda was the better pro quarterback. The most remarkable thing about George Blanda was that his pro career lasted 26 seasons! That is a record likely never to be broken.
What a remarkable athlete he was.
