What do you guys think - I have been mulling this question over in my head now for a cpl of weeks and here it is:

Would we have won any more qames using Newton or Moss@*(# than Harline so far this season?

My answer is probably not as we would have won the 1st three with any of the qb's and believe we could have won at least one more (maybe not SC but someone else). In the meantime we lost a year of experience using Harline who despite the numbers has had several blunders the last few weeks that were his fault.

Just saying - we can win the next two with Hartline but what I have seen of Tenn this year they will give us all we can handle regarless who the QB is.

Man what a disappointing season! [Frown]

Ed, i thought for sure we had screwed up and Newton should have started but now even though we have lost some games we should have won i think Hartline has done a good job. I do not think however our defense has done their part and look like they are just going through the motions. This does not include Danny Trevathan as he has had a "fantastic" year....

Some how Joker has got to change the mindset of many of his players as they just don't look like they have the desire to win. They are just going through the motions and not giving a 100 percent. We should not have lost to Mississippi or Mississippi State.

IMHO, if UK was going to start another QB, it should have been Moss...he is the best passer. But, there were guys who dropped passes in their hands as well as the QB missing wide open guys and throwing into triple coverage.

Bruce - I agree with what you are saying about Harline but to me the bottom line is our record and it is terrible and now it is possible we might not even make a bowl. My point is with this kind of record we might as well got one of the freshmen ready for next year.

Our defense is terrible - we can't hold on to the ball on offense - even Hartline is throwing a lot of interceptions now.

Using newton or moss#^$% would have at least given us a leg up for next year.

I hope one of them gets to play next week at least.

I think Hartline is a good "pocket" qb. However, he puts little to no pressure on the defense with his lack of arm strength (he had Cobb open behind a defender & Matthews all alone behind the defense and underthrew both passes) because the defenders know they can cheat up and then recover deep. Also, he is zero threat to run for a big gain, thus defenses can rush all out and not worry about him breaking containment and running for 20-30 yds. He is a good decision maker most of the time, but if I were coach, I would have Moss or Newton playing now. It's time to start working on next year IMO.

Of course, my first order of business would be to fire Steve Brown.

I find almost nothing to fault Hartline for. He has been consistently the second best QB in the league, with number one varying week to week. I doubt very seriously that we would have won any more games merely by having a different QB.

Now, as others have pointed out, our defense is simply atrocious against the run. And, quite frankly, the only reason teams don't rake up more yards against us is because they don't need to -- they get all the yards they need running the ball.

And, it really isn't necessarily all Steve Brown's fault. He had some decent defensive rankings when he had the players. We simply need mo' better players on that side of the ball!

Tip - I don't fault Hartline either - just wondering how much better we would be next year if we had used the other QB's this year since our record would probably been about the same in either case.

Bruce - don't forget if Mister Cobb gets his grades in order he will be a force. Also the kid from La - Rumpt?

One thing is for certain if we cant put pressure on the opposing QB, we can't win!

I have been no big Hartline fan in the past, but there is no way I can fault him. We are putting up points. Unless you say that Hartline is terrible Saftey or Cornerback, then you would have a point. [Big Grin]

Aside from turnovers, the offense is getting the job done, but we need a defense that can play two halves.
