Jacob Russell former EKU quarterback is walking on at Kentucky.
Russell, a 6-foot-2, 225-pound freshman from Lawrenceburg, said last week that he's started classes at UK and talked to coach Joker Phillips about playing for the Wildcats. A scholarship player at EKU, Russell plans to begin practice this spring, then sit out next season under NCAA transfer rules.
"I'm going to be a walk-on," Russell said. "I talked to Coach Phillips. I was up here for one of their pre-bowl practices, and we talked about things.
"Pretty much, he wants me to play quarterback. I'm going to start off as a walk-on, and I'll have to sit out a year obviously. But I still have my redshirt. I'll sit out a year, then have three years to play."
Russell appeared in seven of EKU's 11 games this season, completing 12 of 26 passes for 125 yards and rushing 36 times for 84 yards and two touchdowns.
Russell was named the Class 5-A Player of the Year by the Kentucky Football Coaches Association as a senior in 2009, helping Anderson County High School to a 9-2 record.
He threw for 2,244 yards and 20 touchdowns and ran for 14 TDs that season and was an all-state selection by the Lexington Herald-Leader and Louisville Courier-Journal.
"It's just always been my dream to play (in the Football Bowl Subdivision), and I just decided that I wanted to go after my dream," he said. "Playing in the (Southeastern Conference) and 30 minutes away from home is a dream for me.

Sounds like a good move on Joker's part. Phil Simms played for Morehead didn't he?

I saw a clip of him. Didn't see any rifle in his arm, ala Phil Simms, but who knows.
