It's looking like we may have a decent year, that is if the freshmen come thru. I'm not sure what the upper classmen are going to do. What will be our record?

Morgan Newton staying healthy is the #1 key to the season. #2 is the overall health of the team. Some years, players drop like flies. The O line needs to stay healthy! They are to be the rock of the Offense this season, if they start dropping out, the team will struggle, imho. The fact that the veteran O linemen have been banged up during preseason drills concerns me.

I agree with boom, our offensive line will be a huge part of the success of our season and if they get banged up we may be in for a long year.
The other thing is that our defense will have to be better than they were last year too.

the O line does have back up and some can play several positions so beleive we will be ok there.

Besides the factors mentioned above my biggest concern is that we may still not have enough of the caliber players to compete in the SEC. That is why I mention that the Freshmen may be what makes the difference in 5 wins and 8 wins.

Brooks did not do well until I criticized him, so here it is. We win 4 games and that's it. I am still not sold on Joker's decision-making process--especially when it comes to play-calling.

Bama cat I too beleive the freshmen are going to have to play big this year,I think josh clemmons is going to play a huge role this year as the backup runningback and may even be the starter by the end of the year.he's a beast.I think we have some studs on defense too like mister cobble, dante rump, winston guy to name a few and now that steve brown ain't calling the shots and Rick Minter is I think the defense will carry the team this year. 8-4 this year and the outback bowl is my prediction.

Hate to sound pessimistic, but I don't see any game breakers on offense. The O-line will be solid, but Newton will have to make far better decisions than in the past. I'm thinking 6-6 or 7-5 at best and hoping I am wrong.

Despite the new, aggressive defense that Coach Minter is implementing, we still don't have the horses to stop a good ground game. I expect everybody to do a 70/30 run/pass attack against us, chewing up clock and scoring frequently. Offensively, everything BUT the offensive line is new and untested. Not very reassuring.

5-7, no bowl, and the beginning of the calls for Joker's resignation. [Frown]

When you play in the SEC you had better have some horses on both sides of the ball. If we can go 6-6 or better we have had a decent season.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm? Looks like I have awoken a sleeping dog. I was wondering if I was the only one worried about the season. I still don't buy all the uptalk by joker. I know he is impressed by the freshmen, or so he says. I believe he is praying they can step in and help because he still doesn't have as good a caliber players as he had last year unless the freshmen can be better than what we lost from last year. And I'm sure everyone knows who we lost from last year. The win column could vary as most of you predict from 4 to 7. I am guessing a 5 or 6. I believe the time for talk is over and Joker needs to figure a way to win at least 7, and that may not stop those looking for his head.

Amazing Joker has been head coach for one year and the talk has already started. Just for the record take a look at our coachs from 1973 and see what their records were. They all were given time to try and turn it around and "all" had less than a 50% record. Joker for what ever reason more than likely will have to do it immediately or face the big blue rath for reasons i just don't understand.

I've been studying the players jokers brought in and I think were on our way up. We deffinetely need to give him a chance. Ya'll need to go to ukathetlics and watch some of the videos with rock oliver rockin with the rookies and you'll see some of the talent we've got better than its been in years.

Vanderbilt out-recruited us this year. That doesn't give me a lot of optimism for our future. I sure hope I am wrong, but I see a 6-6 season at best.

Derrick Locke has been released by the eagles to get down to 80 players. They must still get down to I believe 55 before the season starts. Doesn't say much for our program when one of our best players can't get close to the final cut. We did have Newton though. He was probably the best player we've had in at least 10 years.

Are you sure you have been following Locke's career? He has been injury prone, his whole college career. He failed his physical, for his first NFL team. He has tons of talent, he just can't stay healthy.

Bottom line is you have to go back "42" years to find a coach that had better than a 50% winning percentage so we better give Joker a couple a few years before we start to tear him apart.

If he has a winning record it will be something new for UK. We seem to have a coach for a few years and finally can him and move on to another one for a few years. No one is going to be here long because no one can win enough to keep a winning record.

It's amazing how all this pep talk in pre-season leads to a big let down when the season starts. Are the coaches and players that lost that they don't understand what it takes to win? Maybe 4 wins. Joker better understand he's in hot water already. Hope it was just a bad night but I don't think so.

They played the worst game, given expectations, that I can remember. Will they rebound? Will the O start playing?

UKs OC is the same one that coached Peyton Manning and Andre Woodson. He is also the same guy that coached Hartline, the #2 passing QB in the SEC, last season.

UK's O line coach is the same guy that produced great lines for Petrino's teams at UL, Atlanta Falcons, and Arkansas.

Joker is the same guy that brought UK's offense out of the doldrums from that turd that Brooks had hired when he first came to Lexington.

Did these guys forget how to coach? I don't think so. I am guessing that they have a bunch of players who are playing like freshmen, waiting for some star to come and put them on their back. Cobb is not going to be putting on a Wildcat uniform again. These guys have to start making plays. Will they? If they don't, they will scrape up three wins. I would never have imagined that they would play so inept and look so bad in their first game.

Who knows, we may have put our load on the wrong QB. Maybe we let the wrong one transfer last year?? I'm just not convinced that we have the right guy in there to take us anywhere. Still think maybe 4 wins unless there is a WHOLE LOT of improvement. If they falter against Central Michigan it's bring on the roundball.

I am not saying Newton played well because he didn't. Newton however seems to be getting "all" the blame for whatever reason. He did have a 56 yard run that won the game along with a 36 yard touchdown pass to King. He also had 3 or 4 perfect passes that were dropped let alone the 4 stiffs in the offensive line who showed no athletisium at all and couldn't keep anyone out of our backfield. Bottom line there is all kinds of blame to go around and to put it all on Newton is just not right.

I agree with your post 100%. There is plenty of balme to go around for the failure of the offense in the first game.

The starting QB had, what I observed, fear in his eyes on the first series of the game. This was disturbing, since he was a junior with game experience.

The O line got outplayed. It matters not to me that they have been banged up and had 2nd stringers playing, along with starters that missed a bunch of practice. They were playing Western! I remember a LB for UK that would make tackles one handed,because the other arm wouldn't stay in the shoulder socket. If the O linemen can't perform against Western, the might as well forfiet any contest against the SEC terams. Getting beat in the trenches, like they did, was disgraceful.

And finally, does this team have a receiving corps that should all be playing on the other side of the ball? One reason why a lot of speedy guys play on defense, is becasue they have hands of stone. When players drop balls that hit them in the hands, they should go to the bottom of the depth chart and work their way back up. All I can think of is to get rid of the depth chart and give all of the guys a chance on gameday. Those that drop a catchable pass must sit out a game. But, I doubt that would motivate these guys, if they have hands of stone.

I know I drank the cool aid that joker was pouring in the off season and predicted 8-4,but after what I seen thursday we'll be lucky to go 4-8.The o-line was suppose to be the stregenth of the team from what I seen their the biggest weakness and the wide receivers need to play with more heart and atleast catch the ball that hit them in the hands.

I am saying 7-5 and that is being very hopeful. I feel that we might have a better overall team come mid to late season once everyone finally comes together and the frosh learn how to play in the SEC. We have a lot of room for improvement but i feel we are on the incline when it comes to the football program, sure it might be a slow incline. But i would like to give joker at least 2 more years after this one before we line up outside his house. It takes time to build a program with a new coach. You have to get new staff, learn new system, and the coach has to start planting his roots in recruiting places. I think kicked Joker out after only a couple years, whether hes above or below 500 will only hurt our football program. Be hopeful BBN, there is a lot of spilled over hype from basketball that helps in football. Recruits get to see the passion and love we have for our Cats whether roundball or egg shaped.

Might as well put us in the Fiesta Bowl. We are a bad team. A VERY bad team. Coach by the best that UK money can buy.

We can't expect success unless we start using the football money to improve the facilities and coaching hires.

It's funny looking back at this poll. The worst possible record choice was 5-7. Now, after three games five wins seems very unlikely because we will have to win two SEC games and beat Jax (which is no sure cupcake win).

2-10 is more likely than 5-7. 3-9 is very likely and 4-8 is about the best we can hope for.
