I told my wife about half-way through the game yesterday that, win or lose our team seemed to be lacking in about every aspect of the game. Can Louisville possibly have better talent than UK?

This team reminds me of watching some of the UK teams at Stoll Field during the Bradshaw era when they were really hard to watch. But a few of the Bradshaw teams were fun to watch. I don't see that happening in the near future under the present system.

clydeh, it's all about talented players and granted even though our coachs for the last 50 years all have losing records we have had a few decent seasons but that's about it. IMO it all comes down to recruiting and getting better players. Kentucky is not the hot bed for football talent so we have to depend on getting our better players from out of state and that isn't always easy, in fact it's never easy. Until we get talent we will not survive in the SEC just like we have for the past 50 years.

I don't know what the problem is. The guys just don't seem to be ready to play and seem overwhelmed, by teams they should blow out or at least win without huge drama. I don't think they all of a sudden just got poor talent. But, I am not a D1 coach, just another dissapointed fan.

boom, we never have had good talent through out the line-up. Granted we have had some terrific talent at times in certain positions but that's about it. Fifty years of losing has told us that. What i don't understand is how some fans think what we are seeing just started? Kind of maskes you wonder where everyone has been all these years, this isn't new by any means.

I agree with you Bruce but we, as fans, can only go by what the Coaches tell us. And Joker has been telling us how good we are, from the offensive line to the defensive line. I know we have very little success but being the fans that we are, we hope each year. The coaches and players should not be our (the fans faces) when the stuff they are talking seems to be the same old B.S. we have been hearing for as long as I can remember!

The fans who support the cats through thick and thin like most of us here on the blog have the right to boo just as we have the right to clap!

Another year and another disapointment. I for one won't make plans around the UK sat game the rest of this season.

In fact, I suspect that the l-ville coach will be getting more of the ky recruits and we will still see the 2-3 stars that the other sec teams dpon't want! (which of course keeps us at the last of the pack level in the sec)

If we are to EVER suceed in the SEC then we need a NAME coach who above anything else MUST be able to recruit. The Jokers of the world are excellent coaches on the whole but HAVE to coach the 2-3's up to even make a bowl!

The Louisville game is recently turning into sort of a bellweather game. If we win it, then maybe we'll have a decent season (decent=6 wins). If we lose it, then it will be a very tough season. Having watched the game on TV, it just seems that we are deficient in offense (first and foremost) and maybe in defense as well (maybe if they didn't have to be on the field so much that would help).

We all know that UK doesn't get the kind of talent in football that the other SEC power teams get, so I am not quick to condemn Joker just yet over his on the field coaching. However, it is very frustrating to see the continued inability of the offense to move the ball consistently in the games so far. And when the SEC games start, this inability is not apt to get better as they will be facing far superior defenses to Western, Central Michigan, and Louisville.

I am not ever in favor of booing our Wildcats, no matter how poorly that they are playing, but I do understand that an offense consisting of run-run-pass-punt does get monotonous and yield the same results. I'm sure everyone, coaches, players, and fans are frustrated. I guess patience is the only answer, and a lot of hard work both on the field and on the road recruiting.

Go Big Blue!

Other than Bear - we have never had a "name" big time coach! Why?

Especially since football brings in more revenue than any other sport!

Blanton Collier was a significant coach in that he had coached in the pros. However, he followed Bear Bryant and got fired (I guess because he couldn't duplicate the Bear's success)

Imho, the team got out coached and out played. I don't buy the theory that UK doesn't have the talent to beat UL.

What did they do last season? They beat USC, one of the best teams in the conference. They also beat Vandy last year, who beat the crap out of Ol Miss, this past weekend. The Cats were competitive in every game, except the Florida game and the bowl game, where they kicked thier starting QB off the team.

So, how does Vandy look like a juggernaught this year and the Cats seem to be heading toward a losing season? I don't believe the talent level can change that quickly between the two teams.

It isn't talent per se, it is game-time performance by that talent.

Too many bad decisions at critical times. Too many passes that should have been caught for big gains dropped. Too many failures by the O-line to give the QB time to find the secondary receiver.

And too many pathetic calls from the sidelines.

Brooks typically got his players to execute the plays, whereas Joker's staff hasn't been very successful at that. I really don't think that there has been a sea-change in the talent level, so this has to fall on the coaching staff.

As a final note, we played Western at a neutral site, and barely came out with the victory. This weekend, Indiana State, which typically has trouble competing in the lowly MVC conference, went to Bowling Green and administered a butt-whippin' to the Toppers. Why can a pathetic team in a lousy conference look good against a team that made UK -- of the Mighty SEC -- look really, really bad?

Because UK simply isn't executing plays.

I was completely disappointed and frustrated with the overall performance of the whole team. We looked horrible on both sides of the ball and i thought we deserved to lose by more. The offense couldn't do anything at all and the play calling didn't help at all. The only time they seemed to do well was in a hurry up offense with more passes than running. If the only time we did well was the very end of the first half when we scored in 1:30 and passed the ball, why in the world would we continue to try and run in the second half and fail over and over. I believe in Newton and think he can play a lot better than what he is now, if they give him the push he needs. He can throw the ball well and his accuracy will improve with in-game production. I know the run game is important and they also want to get Newton mobile, but i think in games like the UL one we should have tried to pass first then get the run game going.

On the other side of the ball, the defense looked like they were at a scrimmage. Slow off the line, arm tackling, and just not much effort i thought. Our defense is supposed to be the better part and UL just seemed to do whatever they want especially after the starting QB went out and a true freshmen ran the game. I think it was #10 the 3rd string QB, whenever he was in it was always a running play. Even the announcers mentioned it. I think 98% of the plays he was in it was a running play and we could not seem to stop them. At times i asked myself if the coaches were watching the same game i was.

In the end, we got beat by the better team and better prepared team. It has to do with the players not doing well, but i think it has a lot to do with the coaching staff. The offense had a very poor play selection and i dont know if Newton was checking into these calls or what. The defense needed more pressure and i felt that we should have made them beat us in the air rather than ram the ball up the middle, eat clock, and still march down the field.

I've never been impressed with Morgan Newton's play. Any thoughts?

I think we kept the wrong QB. Masakowski We don't have near as many 4 and 5 star athletes to compete. We started going downhill about 4-5 years ago, although we weren't that high then.

We have a quarterback, look at Morgan's stats:
He was 27-41, 0 interceptions, for 255 yards, 2 touchdowns, 3 or 4 dropped passes and a offensive line that got him sacked 6 times. Until we get some real men in the line he will get sacked many more times. Just look at that them and you can see they are soft.

Joker said this
_____________________________________________

"Saturday’s sacks were a combo of the O-Line missing assignments and holding blocks and Morgan holding on to the ball too long."

______________________________________________

Newton has to share some of the blame for the six sacks along with the overhyped O line IMO

Hey catman, What does that pic you posted have to do with proving your point. First, Newton is holding on to the ball too long and not making his progressive reads fast enough. Let's not forget that these linemen were counted on to be the anchor of the O this season, because they have a lot of game experience. They are the same guys who didn't give up that many sacks last season. It may have more to do with Newton and the absence of the starting center, who calls the line's blocking schemes. No matter the root cause of the sacks, I just don't think it is because they are a bunch of pansies.

Boom, let me ask you a question how long is to long to hold on to the ball? It looks to me like a sieve watching the defensive lineman pour into our backfield. When you rush for a total of 97 yards with 32 carries it's obvious the line isn't doing their job either. Our running backs made very few runs over 3 yards and not one mention of that by any poster but Newton gets slammed by a bunch of posters and he was the only offense we had. The offensive line played terrible and very little is said about that or even the dropped passes are hardly mentioned. I also haven't seen Travathan or Guy's name even mention in any post who both played their hearts out and the stats show it. I guess it's easier to get on the coachs and a qb that just has never been liked. We have lost football games for 50 years but this year is over the top with posts that border on hateful. I thought fans were to give support as this team needs it. It's a good thing none of us has a player on the team or a relative of Joker's as it would be hard to take reading all the negativity.

I do have one confession to make as the "only" reason i posted about the offensive line was to try and take some of the heat off the quarterback and Joker but that doesn't work either. Hopefully Joker will leave as he doesn't deserve the remarks being made about him no matter how much money he makes and Newton graduates so he can get back to a normal life.

To start with, the coaches are the ones who got the fans jacked up about the season in the first place. If they came out said that they weren't sure how many games they would win and that it was a rebuilding year, the fans might not be so alarmed.

The QB does not seem to be comfortable in the offense. He is a Junior, with games experience. I blame the coaches for this. It is their job to get the players ready. Maybe he just can't do the job, under pressure? If he can't, it is the coaches job fix it.

The coaches are a mystery to me. I do not know why the team is struggling as a whole, like it is. Again, the offense performed like a 90lb weakling, instead of a well oiled machine. They put the D on the short side of the field the whole game. I can understand the D having missed assignments from timme to time, because it is still a new system. But the O should never be this bad.
