It more than likely it won't happen but after reading this article you realize it just might be possible.

This is a legitimate question. With Texas A&M, Pittsburgh, and Syracuse all switching conferences, and rumors all over the place about Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech finishing out the would-be Pac-16, we're all the closer to four "superconferences" in college sports. I think we're all aware, by now, that the conference re-shuffling is all driven by maximizing TV revenue from broadcasting football games. This begs the question, then, of where Kentucky might fall in all of this.

But Kentucky is in the SEC! you may be thinking. Surely they're safe?!?!

Maybe not. In the ever-shrinking swimming pool that is upper-level college football, Kentucky may find itself on the outside looking in. Sure, football seems like a priority for Kentucky, but let's be honest with ourselves: our football program does not bring much to the table. No one's banging on our doors to get us to move conferences, and why would they? While it may seem like Kentucky is above the fray thanks to already being in what is sure to be one of the four big conferences that will probably exist within the next ten years, I'm not sure UK's SEC brethren wouldn't think twice about shoving the Cats out in favor of bringing in a Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, or Texas if that's a possibility. Kentucky basketball, as great as it is, does not make the SEC money; football does.

This isn't probable, but I do think that it is remotely possible. The solution, even if the problem is off the grid, is for Kentucky to really dedicate itself to a winning football program. Let's hope that happens, so the above nightmare scenario doesn't play itself out.

Never happen,,,,, #1 CATS are the preiminent program not just in SEC but nationally with regard to HOOPS.... and we are by far not the worst football team in the SEC...

#2 March Madness makes a boat load of money, though minor compared to footbal revenues, but as long as the CATS are winning, recruiting, and feeding the NBA,,, the SEC Network LOVES to have us on during the football offseason..... even if we do spank their butts..

I think it could be possible depending on which football schools may want to come into the SEC. If it happens I would love to see UK move into the ACC.

The SEC could make a case for a Super 16 Football conference by adding Oklahoma, Texas, Florida State, Virgina Tech, and Notre Dame. That would require moving out UK and Vanderbilt.

Never gonna happen..... Football Conference or not,,, we are the most historic and with Coach Cal, the most recognized school in the SEC (some of us here would say Nation) for hoops... with a nationwide fan base , the CATS will always be on the SEC radar...Not a single school would want us out because the Basketball CATS are the only game they can guarantee will be sold out, even if their arenas are filled with a sea of BLUE!!

Everyone knows, if the CATS are playing football, the Ballers are playing pickup games with Rondo, Rose, Cousins, Lebron, Evans, Wall, etc...... and if allowed, 24,000 would watch the pickup games... AND ESPN would show it!

It's highly unlikely it will happen because football is where the money is and the University gets a big cut of that even though we are a cellar dweller most every year.

I'm like Trey however and would love to see us playing Duke, North Carolina and all the other schools in the ACC every year in basketball. The bonus to that is our football program would do alot better also. It's sick having to play Bama, Florida, LSU and all the other SEC schools every year. There is no way in hades we can ever be a threat playing football in the SEC.

I just don't see this ever happening. Kentucky has been a member in good standing of the SEC for many years, if they were to leave that conference, I would think it would be of their own choosing, not something the SEC would suggest.

I just looked it up, UK is a charter member of the SEC which was formed from the old Southern Conference in 1932. I don't see anyone asking one of their charter members to leave the conference.
