It's obvious we are not or ever have been even the inkling of a football school. Fifty years of losing tells us that and not even the re-emergence of the Bear coming back can change that fact. It may be time to face our future and realize we aren't going to get better and the addition of other prominent football schools into the SEC is only going to make it worse. We will see fewer patsy games at the beginning of the season means fewer wins and more loses. The fan base is only going to get more upset which is hard to imagine after reading the posts of late. It's not fair to the players and coachs we have as they are doing the best they can with what we have. It's a no win situation.
The idea of a "name" coach is just talk as posters never put a name out there because they know all the money in the world would not get a name coach to come to a school like Kentucky for many reasons, like: No in state players to draw from: Fans have a "very" short leash: SEC is the "Mega" football conferance which is hard to compete and recruit against: All attention goes to the Basketball team and that is hard to contend with as the administration and fans have made Kentucky a basketball factory and that isn't going to change:
It may be in the best interest of all concerned if Kentucky leaves the SEC and joins the ACC and makes it a "Mega" conferance for basketball. This would not only be good for the basketball team and fans it would also allow the football to team to compete with less competition game after game and year after year making the most ardent football complainers with less to complain about.(which would be a welcome releif for everyone)
The reality of this possiblity however is money and football is king when it comes to that. It's obvious that all this jumping around by teams and conferances boils down to money and the SEC seems to benefit the most and the schools with in the SEC are going to all get richer. So more than likely the university of Kentucky will do well on the monetary side and the fans and football program probably will continue to suffer. imo

While I don't have a name, UK is not the place that is going to succeed with (or actually getting) an already proven head coach. We can be successful if we can find the coordinator who seems to be getting passed over and has a chip on his shoulder.
Honestly, though, we don't even have a chance to for that type of coach if we don't open up our pocketbooks and spend some on the coach AND the program.
Joker Phillips could still turn things around IF he sees his faults and fixes them. So far, he has never been able to do that.

Fred, You mimicked my thoughts completely. We may not be able to hire a "name" coach, but we could hire an energetic, innovative asst. coach who could bring a more exciting offense to our team. I don't mean hire an asst. coach for Joker, but replace Joker with an up and coming asst. coach from a successful program somewhere.

I found this article about the pluses of UK moving to the ACC and their reasons were interesting and on the same lines as i posted.
Football wise, this is a win win. I think all UK football fans have come to the realization that UK is going to be near the bottom of the SEC almost every single year. Even in UK's best year in the past 10 years, they finished 3rd in the SEC East. UK fans may even see Vanderbilt finish ahead of them this y--ok that's enough Vandy football talk. The SEC is tough even in a down year. So why not join a conference that UK can compete in? If you can't beat them, join another conference. The ACC sounds like a great opportunity for Kentucky.
In the past 5 years in the ACC, the team with the best record finished with at least 3 losses. That means that every BCS representative from the ACC had good NOT great years. Also in that same 5 year span, the Atlantic division in the ACC has had 5 different division champs. Plenty of room for parity and opportunity. The Coastal division has been locked up by Va Tech for a while, but they certainly are no Florida, Alabama, or LSU. In fact (or opinion), UK football is on par with most of the ACC. For example, last year NC state, Wake Forrest, Virginia, Duke, and Ga.Tech. had a combined record of 25-37.
Now let's talk about the basketball ramifications. That's is the fun part. This week we learned that Syracuse and Pittsburgh formally agreed to join the ACC, which may have made the ACC the premier basketball conference in America. If UK joined the fold, the ACC would be insane. Could you imagine UK playing North Carolina every year? Ok, bad example. But, how about playing Duke twice maybe 3 times per year? Somebody has to stop the Dukies from walking through the ACC every year, why not the Cats. Now that Coach Cal has formed UK into a perennial national powerhouse, they should play the best. Its like they say, to be the best you have to be UK.
It may be sad leaving the SEC at first, but when you really sit down and think about it, it's time to move on. In basketball UK has won the SEC regular conference title an astounding 46 times (2nd in NCAA) and the SEC conference tournament 28 times (1st in NCAA). What more is there to accomplish in this league. The same could be said in football, what more can UK accomplish there, maybe 2nd place in the East division?
I'm not saying this will or should happen, but if it did, it would be pretty freaking cool.

UK will always be a bottom feeder football program in the SEC with the likes of Vandy. Regardless the Cats get 3-star players, the rest of the SEC is loading up with all 5-star players. Hard to compete with that.
An energetic, young coach may get a couple more wins, but in the end the program will still be mediocre at best.

Adding Texas A&M will open up the market for a lot more talented kids from Tejas who would love to play in the SEC...... not saying we get more 5Star guys, but definitly more options to choose from....
