I know a lot of the posters dont want to hear this but to me and after watching the past two games, Newton is not going to lead us anywhere.
His passes are 90% off the mark whether he is rushed or not. For example in the last 2 mins of the game, he missed badly 2-3 passes to receivers with no one rushing him.
He makes bad decisions and gets sacked - he is not fast so the option is basically out. Someone pls tell me where his upside is!
No wonder the fans can't wait until basketball!

I like Morgan. But, he just isn't getting it done. It's time to put some effort into getting a new QB in the lineup.

Ed, How can you put all the blame on Newton's shoulders, it's not a one man team. Don't you think his numbers would go up if he had a offensive line? The defensive line got to Newton faster than the the ball did. He got sacked 3 times today which is a complete miracle and the backup qb got sacked twice in less than a quarter of playing time which wasn't that bad either considering the protection they got. Bottom line this isn't a good team but let's remember it's a team, "our" team. One other thing, not all Kentucky fans are going to give up on the Cats and will support them win or lose.

Bruce - no one is giving up on them - I will be watching the SC game next week BUT Newton is a 4* QB and good QB's find a way to win. I see no special effort out of him and as I pointed out his throws are way off base even when he is not rushed. In the 1st qtr for example he had Roak wide open across the middle and threw the ball behind him. That is just not acceptable for a QB that was supposed to be so good.
Good players can put a team on their back and carry them. No one (other than Danny T) has that ability in my opinion. The coaching staff told us time and time again how good our OL is - they were either blowing smoke up our *** or the have "coached" them down - one of the two. The injuries have a little to do with it but having one starter out for a game should not bring the entire OL down.
Even when they do block for the QB he either can not find a receiver, throws it behind or over their heads or gets sacked!
When has anyone seen a worst KY team than this one (so far as I still hope they get it together) for many many years. At least Mumme teams were exciting this one is not!

This team is lacking everywhere starting at the top. The coachs are not doing a good job of getting the right players needed to compete in the SEC. They are not preparing the players for the game. Newton should have bee the backup and Massakowski should still be here. Newton can't think quick enough to play at this level and he is not, and probably never will be a great passer. He has very little mobility so that does not leave him with very much. The offensive kine must have been over publisized because they are not SEC caliber. We have no running game outside of a little bit from Cleamons. The defense gets faked out of their jock straps and can not tackle. We have great kicker and a couple good defensive players. If these players were supposed to be so good then the coaches are not doing much with them. I have felt that for several years we were going back downhill before Brooks left and I think the post season games show that. We peaked under Brooks about 4 years ago and started back to the old UK doormat we used to be. I see nothing about this team that would make me think that next year will be nothing but worse. Of course this is only one mans opinion. I will continue to watch their games and marvel at how bad they are. Bring on the round ball.

Here is a comment from Joker ref Newton

“(Newton) made a couple plays down the stretch, but he’s got to play better than he’s playing. He is not playing fast. He’s holding the ball too long. We gave up five sacks again today. You can say it’s the offensive line, but some of that’s got to come on the quarterback also.”

That is why Newton has to share some of the blame along with the OL.

I don't know if Newton will ever start playing to win. I hope the Cats can get some solid QB play. As maligned as Hartline was, early in his college career, the light turned on for him during his junior season. Will the light turn on for Newton?

If he is ever able to pick up the open receivers instead of just looking for the primary receiver. Also he must throw it away if there is no open receiver and he has no where to run to. This will all take some quick recognition on his part. Not sure he can do it.
