Looked like a real good QB tonight. He completed all sorts of passes and actually made our O look relevant again. His short passes had touch and were right on the money. Is it just a coincidence that Matt Roark caught 12 passes? Smith needs to be our starter at QB. Period.

I think he will start and hopefully he can turn it around as he deserves the chance.

Smith played well, throwing catchable balls the majority of the time. I would start him and move Newton to another position, next season, possibly TE.

Doesn't matter who starts if our defense lets the opponent run wild and their qb sits in the pocket all night waiting for a receiver. Up the middle we are good but that is about it! p.s. Smith certainly looks better than Newton and makes quicker decisions!

I couldn't agree more,Smith actually looked like A Qb. If I was A betting man i'd bet joker starts newton though.

I watched the intrerview with Joker after the game and it seemed loke he was looking for excuses for the way Smith played well??? I have thought for a year that he acts prejudice and I'm still feeling that way. It's do or die with Newton or else. How long has it been since we finished 3-9?? I would hate to think Mitch would make two bad selections in 4 years.

Bama, that is what I posted on some topic recently, That Barnhart got that big raise and a new contract and he hired Billy Gillispie and now Joker Phillips, probably two of the worst hires for our major sports ever at UK.

Joker is in way over his head. This team has not improved in any area and it's obvious that he can't judge talent (no way Mossakowski shouldn't have been given at least a chance last year in the bowl game). It's not like Newton is an awesome QB. Heck, he's not even a decent QB. Mitch, please derail this train wreck now before it gets worse (if that is possible). We UK fans have suffered enough watching this debacle.

Wholeheartedly agree with Bama and others. Joker has not achieved a sub .500 record by making smart decisions. Joker will make a thousand excuses to keep Newton as starter and it will be the anemic Newton to (only) King show again. Of course, we season ticket holders will be asked to continue to foot the bill. For what?????

Unless Joker finds a way to win 3 out of the remaining 4 games Mitch is going to have to backtrack on his words and send Joker on a permanent vacation. As was said above he is another Gillispie, in way over his head. He doesn't show he knows how to recruit, his play calling is poor, and I think some of his hires leave a lot to desire. I hope the KY kid he has recruited at QB for next year is the real deal, not just another 2-3 star player. If you look at this team and the recruits coming in we could be looking at another 3 or 4 losing seasons again.

Joker said in the press that he has to figure out which QB will give them the best chance to win, next week. What the hell? Maybe they should fire Mitch for hiring such a dumb coach.

When Vandy looks better (a lot better I might add) under a 1st year coach than UK with a coach who has been in our system for 8 years, you know we're in trouble.

I watched some of the Vandy game this week. If we are counting on a win over them, we may be sadly mistaken. They looked pretty darned good!
