Let's see, college baseball is about getting the best players to come in and wonder how many will actually forego college and go straight to the minor leagues. College baseball is not a revenue producing sport for universities. It does garner a team national attention if the goe to college world series. But a money maker? No.

College football is the cash cow for Kentucky. It is by far the most untapped resource that UK has. They play in the toughest league, against the most prominent teams in the nation. They have a 70K stadium that they need to fill for each game. They share in a very lucrative tv contract. Kentucky spent a lot of money on Calipari and it has come back to them in bunches.

I do get the gist that Mr Clay is trying to make, comparing the head coach of the football team to the head coach of the baseball team. But, for a guy that has been a writer as long as he has been, I expect better.

If the baseball team remained mediocre, it would be disappointing, but there is not a lot of revenue riding on its success. If the football team continues to be mediocre or gets worse, the fans will not show up for games and season ticket sales will diminish. There is no comparison.

I am sure, with a couple of hours of research on the internet, Mr Clay could have found another coach of a D1 college football program that had a make or break third season, to compare to Joker's situation.

No, Clay is not the turd that his paper has as a beat writer for basketball. But, I expect better from a guy who is generally well respected in his profession.
