If Stoops is considered to be the best up an coming DC in the college game, I say give him a shot.

As far as Mike MacIntyre of San Jose State, I am not sure how a mid major level conference coach will do, but some of the biggest names in coaching came from smaller schools and moved up.

Whoever get hired, I hope they do well and win a bunch of games.

None of the names I have been hearing have the "wow" factor that I feel is needed for this fan base to take the hire seriously.

I think Mitch needs to really make a splash with this and the names that have been surfacing leave me yawning. [Embarrassed]

I think the only "Big Name" guy that they have a chance of getting is the one with the baggage that it is rumored that they won't talk to. UK will most likely get an up an comer and hope they pan out. That is just the way it is.

Reading the info on McIntyre, he seems to be able to get blood out of a turnip and that's what it will take at UK. He took San Jose St. from 1-11 to 10-2 with no recruiting budget and little program excitement. Sounds like he would be a perfect fit for UK.

Joe Schad tweeted last night that Butch Jones, Sonny Dykes, and Mark Stoops have said no thanks to UK. It that is true, who do we turn to next?

I heard the same thing on WLAP. The fact is that all of those coaches do not look at UK as a desirable job. They look at the position as a place where coaches go to "die".

UK would be best served to find an up and coming coach and take their chances with that person. They are not going to get the big name when they have to compete with Tennessee, Arkansas, and Auburn in the SEC. There is no way they can get into a bidding war for a coach with those schools.

I really don't think it makes much difference who UK hires as a coach. I don't think UK football teams problem is as much a coaching problem as it is a culture problem.

IMO, UK is, always has been and always will be a basketball school. I know there are some fanatical UK football fans out there, but for every one on them there are 100 UK basketball fanatics. Hiring the greatest coach in football is not going to change that and besides, if they have a lick of sense they ain't coming here.

Hire an up and coming young coach and if sucessful, they leave after they have built their resume. It's a no win situation.

Not many colleges have powerhouse football and basktetball programs, maybe none.

We are what we are, a basketball powerhouse. UK football is destined to mediocrity in the good years and much worse in the bad. I really don't believe there is much that can change than.

This post may endanger my chance of winning "most popular poster of the year" award.

Maybe some of their luck and good fortune will rub off. Let's all go up to the Ohio River and jump in and maybe we can get some from Ohio State. they have had good basketball and football ever since I was a kid (I won't go back farther than 1959). I grew up a basketball kid around the likes of Jerry Lucas and Oscar robertson, and Archie Griffin and Hopalong Cassidy. There is proof out there that you can win in both FB and BB. You just have to have the desire and the funds to do it. Maybe we don't have enough people with the desire in KY. If we can pay what Cal gets I would guess that we could pay to get a good coach. But would a good coach even come here for the money? The athletic director would have to be able to convince the right guy that we were serious about winning. And right now I'm not sure we can convince the right guy that we are willing to do what it takes to win at football. Just my humble opinion.

I like McIntyre for the job even over Stoops or Dykes. Not that anyone cares, but he's my favorite.

Handycat, I agree 100% with what you posted. We will never be A football school until the culture changes.
