We will know in a few hours just how locked in the Cats were.
Is the team is developing preparation habits the way he wants? “I’ve been pleased. I really have been. I feel like with the offense still playing quite a few young guys, they’ve handled it very well. And defensively, we have some older guys and some more guys with more experience, especially leading, setting the example. So overall just pleased with the whole team. I think offensively, it’s just where we’re at. They’re playing so many young guys, it’s hard for those guys to keep that focus and attention to detail day in and day out, each and every play, each and every situation in practice. But overall, very pleased. I think we’re really getting to the point where we’re pretty solid that way.”
Is he seeing the practice habits reflecting a culture change? “Yeah, I do. I feel good about where we’re at. I really enjoy coaching these guys. They’ve been locked in. They’ve had the right attitude. We’re far from perfect, but they give great effort and they care. They have a great desire to prepare to win.”
Is this the type of game where you want to lock yourself in the film room in a coaching battle? “You do, but you can’t chase ghosts either. You’ve just got to do what you do, and play within your scheme, within your concepts. We have rules to each and every thing we do. That’s where things come up maybe that’s new, and different wrinkles. You’ve just got to execute and do your job. So, certainly there comes with a lot of preparation with a guy that you have so much respect for as far as a play-caller, but that’s pretty much every week in this league. So, it’s always a challenge.”
How important a fast start would be tonight? “I think it’s real important. As I said earlier in the week, last year — we really didn’t fare so well last year down there. They started extremely fast. We have to do a better job at home of trying to withstand that. I think everybody would like to have a fast start, so we’ve got to be ready to go, that’s for sure.”
