This time it's a defensive end from Georgia.
The hits just keep coming for the 2015 Kentucky football recruiting class.
Defensive end Tyrone Riley of Savannah, Ga., verbally committed to UK in mid-November. But today he said he will sign with N.C. State Wednesday.
He’s the fifth player to de-commit to UK in the last week.
National signing day is Wednesday.

You can only sell a "vision" for so long. At some point it has to result in "Wins" on the field. Losing 6 in a row, with many of those games not even being competitive, hurts a bunch.
That is why I said when Stoops took over that I hope UK could eventually get back to 7-5 seasons because that is about the top of the mountain for the UK football program.
I can't remember the poster, but this is the year that Kentucky should be 11-1. He guaranteed that Stoops would be every bit as successful as Charlie Strong was a Louisville in year three. I wanted to bet him at that time, but he never responded. [ 01-31-2015, 12:01 PM: Message edited by: Trey Ball ]
-------------------- Wife's Mad. Told me we never talk anymore. And just last nite while watching super bowl told her 2 or 3 times to get me a coke and popcorn. Also told her not to forget to take out trash in the morning. Ain't that something. Also told me I was too indecisive. Can't figure out what to do about that. One nice thing I guess. She called me a pro crastinator. Don't know what a crastinator is but I guess I'm a good one for her to call me a pro. Gonna wait til tomorrow to look that up though. I love her but somrtimes can't help but thinking I should have told uncle Junior to keep his coon hound pup and stevens double barrel and also his youngest daughter.

boom,
I agree, but I looked at the schedule a few days ago I don't think they can get to 6 wins without an upset or two. I think 5 will be a stretch. They should beat LA-Lafayette, Eastern Kentucky, Charlotte, and Vandy in Nashville. Somehow they are going to have to sneak out two wins against Florida/Missouri/Tennessee/Louisville because I don't think they can win at South Carolina, home against Auburn, at Miss State, or at Georgia
I would love to see them get rid of the gimmicky offense they run and go to more of a pro-style attack with the players they have, but that will not happen. [ 01-31-2015, 02:38 PM: Message edited by: Trey Ball ]

I will say it again. I was very disappointed in the QB production, last season. UL rolls its third string guy out, after the 2nd string guy get hurt, and he looks like he is a heisman candidate.
Either last year's starter has to turn into a player or the red shirt kid needs to show that he is the man. I could be dead wrong in my assessment, but I believe a lot is riding on how the QB position turns out this coming season.
For whatever reason, the QB play got much worse at the end of the season and he clearly appeared to lack confidence, miss reads, and miss easy throws. Count me as one fan who is happy there is a new OC in town. I think the old OC couldn't make lemonaide with what he had. Just put points on the board.

I was hoping Barker would earn the starting job this next year but heck he might not even be on the team.. I like many others thought Towles got worse as the season progressed..

I wouldn't be surprised if Barker will be available to play come football season.

I could see it from up close last year from my post around the 30 yard line. The plays that were called were not very smart and Towles was just not hitting against the better defenses the last 6 games. It is starting to look like another coach will not produce a winner. This is the year he needs to go to a bowl game and as you read above, he most likely will be lucky to win 6 games. Another 5 win year and the next year will be his last one. We just provided fodder to all the other recruiters by missing out on that bowl game this year.

THE ONLY VISION WE HAVE IS TO JUST WIN 6 GAMES, THAT IS ABOUT THE BEST KY WILL EVER DO IN THE SEC.

We have to go bowling this season if we don't want this thing to fall flat on it's face!

It is year three for Stoops. This is there target year. They won't have all the players they need, but they will have enough to have a winning season. No, they haven't done it yet.
But, Kentucky went in a different direction than they have in the past, hiring a defensive coach. He has greatly improved recruiting and has been red shirting players. He has managed to keep the majority of his staff intact and the University has stepped up to pay them a decent salary, before they have even produced.
Building a winning program is a process. My biggest complaint about Stoops and staff is that they did not go out and get a Juco QB for last season. But, what do I know. I do not get paid millions of dollars to coach a D1 football program.
I remain optimistic. I do feel good things are going to happen. They do have to happen this season. The honeymoon is over. I do believe the long suffering Kentucky football fans will have reason to smile this season. [ 02-01-2015, 08:36 AM: Message edited by: boomdaddy ]

We are going to have to beat a few teams we're not supposed to beat this season if we plan on going to a bowl game!

I agree he got worse, but I think he got worse because the play calling was atrocious IMO. Very predictable and the passing plays were all at the line of scrimmage the last 7 games with a QB who has an NFL caliber arm. Just stupid not to utilize his arm on down field throws. They had the down field throws early in the year and then he had one bad outing and the pulled the reigns back.
Stoops and his staff have done a very good job recruiting, but I think his coaching has a lot to be desired. [ 02-01-2015, 12:50 PM: Message edited by: Trey Ball ]

Yes we did a good job in recruiting but if you compare it to the rest of the SEC we ranked 9th best and that was before we had a few players decommit. When you play in the SEC you better have recruiting classes better than 9th best if you expect to win.

We can also be realistic and say that Kentucky has been getting higher ranked recruits, from the current staff, than any other one since the Curci era. If this years class is ranked a bit lower, they will have still improved upon what they had. I also don't believe transfers are ever calculated in the rankings.
It is a catch 22. You have to get the best athletes to be able to win and you can't win without getting the best athletes. I do believe the pendulum will be swinging towards the winning side of things, this season. They win this season and go bowling, then they will keep up momentum in recruiting.

I was so optimistic about ky football - as I am every year but then seems like every year I feel like we have regressed. This years recruiting class was supposed to be top 20 then the running back went to Ala and it started to fall apart then.
I still have hope but given my 50 plus years of following our football team I am not holding my breath!
