He is going to be a good one and his number will be called a lot of times in the future.

Byrnes wide receiver Tavin Richardson verbally committed to Kentucky during a ceremony at New Hope Baptist Church on Friday.

Richardson (6-foot-3, 214 pounds), a Shrine Bowl selection, chose the Wildcats over Central Florida and Louisville. He was recruited by Kentucky wide receivers coach Tommy Mainord.

Richardson has a total of 21 offers. He said playing in the Southeastern Conference made his decision easy.

"I was talking to Coach Mainord who was recruiting me and coming down to see me when I was a junior in high school," Richardson said. "It all started from there. We built a good relationship with each other throughout my process. It is a big jump, but I'm pretty sure that I'm ready. I'm going to keep working to be the best."

Richardson had 47 catches for 501 yards and five touchdowns to help lead Byrnes to the Region II-4A title and 4A Division I state semifinals. He said finishing the recruiting process is a weight off his shoulders.

"It just aggravated (me) to death everywhere you go and everyone asking where you're going," he said. "I'm glad that it's over now and that I'm finally a Wildcat."

Richardson will join former Woodruff wide receiver Blake Bone at Kentucky. Bone had 14 catches for 194 yards and two touchdowns as a freshman last year with the Wildcats.

Richardson said joining Bone made the decision easier, but he consulted his family on what was best for him.

We have to improve in every position if we expect to compete in the SEC.
