A brief interruption from the basketball excitement…
Kentucky picked up a football commitment from Jaylin Bannerman, a three-star linebacker from… yup… Ohio. Bannerman is listed at 6-foot-6, 215 pounds and he had other offers Illinois, Miami OH and Toledo.
Here he is with soon-to-be first-rounder Bud Dupree…

Ohio defensive end Jaylin Bannerman committed to the University of Kentucky during his recruiting visit to Lexington on Saturday.
Bannerman — a 6-foot-6, 215-pound prospect — is ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 28 prospect from Ohio in the class of 2016. He plays outside linebacker for Pickerington Central, the same program that produced former UK commitment DaVon Hamilton.
Hamilton ended up flipping his commitment to Ohio State before national signing day.
Bannerman also had early scholarship offers from Illinois and Toledo. UK recruiting coordinator Vince Marrow made him a priority target early in the 2016 cycle, and he’s the Wildcats’ seventh commitment from the Buckeye State so far for next year.
UK has 12 total commitments, and its class is currently considered one of the top five in the country.
247Sports ranks Bannerman as the No. 48 weakside defensive end in the class of 2016. He was attending UK’s home basketball game against Arkansas when news broke of his commitment. Earlier in the day, he posted a picture of himself with departing UK defensive end Bud Dupree, who is projected as a first-round pick in this year’s NFL Draft.
Bannerman is the first defensive lineman to commit to Kentucky for 2016.

HT: 6-6 | WT: 215 LBS. Hometown: Pickerington, Ohio High School: Central HS Scout.com Ranking: Scout.com Three Star Defensive End Projected College Position: Defensive End / Linebacker
Key Offers: Kentucky (Pledge), Illinois, Toledo, Miami Ohio
WHAT TO LIKE
Long framed athlete who is raw but shows signs of being a high level player in the coming years. Length will allow Kentucky to do a couple of things with him. First he can stay at defensive end and add bulk without losing athletic ability. He could also add less bulk and take a step back and line up as a linebacker depending upon the scheme the Wildcats want to run.
WHAT IS A CONCERN
The first thing Wildcat fans must remember is there is a long road ahead before Bannerman signs a letter of intent. This is a prospect several other schools are looking at and will continue to with possible offers in the future. On the field it’s all a matter of what direction the Wildcats take with Bannerman physically. He’s raw but shows flashes of being a player with the tool set to play at a high level. Must get stronger and add bulk in coming years.
OVERALL
Jaylin Bannerman comes from one of Ohio’s top prep programs and while he’s somewhat under the radar, his skill set shows he’s got a chance to become special. A two-way performer in high school, Bannermann looks like he’d be a special player off the edge once he adds more bulk and strength as he shows good burst off the edge with some quick twitch.

Bean I read somewhere that our 2016 class ranks 4th in the nation right now. Of course that will change down the road. But if we hang in there with Stoop troops they will take us to the promise land.

Any type of bowl is a must this season, to keep momentum building. I am glad Kentucky has a new OC, by the way. I really expected more from the O last season. Maybe it is just me, but I thought the play calling became way too predictable at the end of the season and the offense seemed to slide backwards along with the QB play.
