We are keeping up with all the other football facilities in the SEC.
With a $120 million renovation entering its final stages, a new synthetic surface is set to be installed this month at The New CWS. On Thursday, the design of the new field was unveiled.
UK Athletics’ new interlocking UK logo will be located at midfield, occupying 10 yards horizontally from one 45-yard line to the other, the same size the midfield logo was prior to the renovation. The end zones and team areas along both sidelines will feature blue checkerboard patterns with white Kentucky lettering. Southeastern Conference logos will be at the 25-yard line on both sides of the field.

Bama, where will you be assigned to this year? I thought you mentioned you may be moving from the 30 yard line area.

I would really like it if we won a number of games this season on the new field.

Turf installation started today. One strip of turf on West endzone has been installed. Will take about 4 weeks to install turf on the entire field.

Stoops made the comment that he couldn't get his players on the old field very much, in fear of tearing it up.
I would like to see the team win a minimum of 6, but am hoping that they shock the fans in a good way, this season.
The administration has finally done all that they can do to nurture this program out of the cellar, including giving the head coach and staff raises, before they have had a winning season. I am all for it. It has been a long time coming.
I am hoping to see positive results, this year.

I spent 5 hours each on Thursday and Friday scraping seat numbers off the complete north side and part of the west end zone where the field installation has started. Got to watch them put in the whole blue checkerboard in square pieces and then the green started going in in complete strips across the whole field. I have pics on my phone but have to figure out how to download them to my computer and then upload them to TCD. By the time I go back next Friday and Saturday to continue work a lot of the scraping should be complete. They didn't have the replacement numbers for the seating yet so none of that has been done.
I will be working in the east end zone this year with the recruit section. They have built what looks like a concrete bunker in the center of the end zone to house a special room for the recruits to party prior to game time. The whole front will be in glass so they can see the field from inside but I've been told they will have to come outside when the game starts. Imagine there will be food and drink galore for them prior to game time. There is a large patio in front of the room where they may have tables and chairs for them to sit at during the game. It looks like it will really be a big upgrade for the recruits. I'm not sure whether the family section will be moved with them or the current athlete section either. Will keep you informed when I learn more. They may have other tasks for us to complete during the June/July time frame. The meeting/picnic for all game workers will most likely be about 8 August so most of the final plans should be known by then.

Bama, thanks for the update we as fans don't realize all the time and planning that goes into a renovation like this.

I'll see if I can get other pics on here, but yes the crews are getting the turf down. This rain though will put the crew behind schedule.

22, they are coming along real well and by the time the season starts we are going to have a very special stadium that will rank right up there with the best in the country.

They have moved along very well since I left there at noon on Friday. They had the blue installed and one section of green at noon on Friday. I will be back at 7:00AM Friday either still removing seat numbers or putting new number in place, if they have them yet. If you have ever been in CWS you know how the numbering was all screwed up. The division of sections was not normal. It was hard for people to find their seat because of where the numbering started and ended for each section. The division of sections should make this easier.

Won't be long as the first game will be September 5th against Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns.

If it doesn't rain tomorrow the east endzone turf will be installed. Maybe 10-15 yds left of green turf to being installed before east endzone.

22, it sounds like they are really moving on the renovations and are going to have everything ready to go for Sept. 5th. Keep us posted.

Crews are slightly behind schedule, but this week the crews can get back on schedule before recruiting camps start.

As of today Saturday, they have all the field in place except for the east end zone. There wasn't much work being done today as we continued numbering the seats. We finished sections 1-11 (all of the lower level north side) and started on the upper level sections 201-211(skipped the mid level sections 101-11). Some of the event workers will continue tomorrow but not near the 30 or so we had today.
Right now they are not scheduled to work next Thursday-Sunday due to UK people being on vacation, but they may change their mind and have a small number who continue working. Right now the only other days scheduled are 18-21 June which I will be at Dayton having fun touring the area for my Air Force Reunion group and getting to see the Dayton Air Show on 21 June.
Right now I'm sure they will have some more work days for us in July. I was told the contractor will be fined $40,000 a day if everything is not ready by opening day. I know they hate to pay fines but looking at it right now I wouldn't bet that everything will be finished by opening day.
If you look at some of the pics posted by UKfan22 above you may notice right below the recruit section in the east end there is an opening at ground level just below the patio for the recruits. The UK team will no longer run out of the tunnel on the left corner of the end zone but will run out right below the recruits and thru the goal posts onto the east end of the field. I think this will add to the excitement of everyone, especially the recruits since they will be that close to the players.
The renumbering of the sections using 1-44 for lower level, 101-144 for the mid level and 201-244 for the upper level was a brilliant idea. Also dividing the sections using the hand rails going from the top of each tunnel to the top over to the next set of rails finally gets rid of the problem of people trying to find their seat when the division was right down the middle of a section.
Looking forward to that hourly raise to $10.00 @ hour starting in July also. We're not getting rich but how can I complain when I get a ringside standing spot that close to the game.

Getting to see the game while making 10 dollars an hour sounds pretty good to me. I bet the parking isn't bad either.
