Was backup quarterback Drew Barker playing a result of the score and situation?
Mark Stoops: “Yeah. At the beginning of that series I wanted to put him in. I’d told him earlier to get loosened up. I just wanted to get him some reps and get him some action. Like we talked about, when is the right time? When is the right time? I’d like to be up by three or four scores one game and put him in or whatever, let him get his feet wet. That never happened all year.
"This was the first time where I just felt like I wanted to get him in the game. Patrick did some good things. He struggled a bit like all of us. I just wanted to get Drew some reps.”

Is Stoops starting to get tired of the mistakes by Towles? Interceptions and bad passes this far into the season may be his undoing.

I think he took Towles out since the game was out of reach and no reason to risk an injury with the TN game coming up. It was nice to see Barker get some playing time but was a little like throwing him to the wolves. Something he'll have to get used to though if he wants to play on the road in the SEC. Stoops may be frustrated with Towles but what can he do at this point? Not many options.

Stoops put Barker in when anything he did wouldn't matter and the linemen were pretending to be matadors, waving at the charging bulls.
Stoops handling of Barker reminds of the way Bill Curry treated Tim Couch.

Towles is simply not a very good quarterback!!
Having said that it is probably too late to put Baker in and except to win two more games!

There will be a new starting safety and a new starting corner back, because of the play against Miss State.
Don't think they have any linemen that that can bench the others for at the moment.
I don't see Barker getting to play either, unless the Cats get down by 50 with 4 minutes to go. Then he just might get a snap or two.
As far a big Mat Elam goes, he needs to bet in better cardio shape to be a factor. My guess is he may do just that for next season and if he dominates like he should will probably leave and UK will just get one great year out of him. But, if that happens, one great year is better than being a non factor.
