With both Patrick Towles and Reece Phillips gone, UK is looking at JuCo options for backup quarterbacks. Gunnar Hoak will enroll early, but the staff understandably wants someone with experience behind Barker as well. One name to keep an eye on in the coming weeks is Stephen Johnson. Johnson is a 6’3″ 202 lbs. dual threat QB out of Palm Desert College of the Desert in California, and word on Twitter is he’s picked up an offer from Kentucky.

Johnson passed for 3,210 yards and 34 touchdowns and ran for eight more this year for the Roadrunners. Here are his latest highlights:

He sure looks good, Johnson is mobile and quick, we have needed a athletic quarterback for a long time. I hope we get him.

I would love to see a dual-threat QB at UK. I think it gives us a much, much better chance to win against the talented SEC schools. Barker is never gonna beat an Auburn, LSU, Florida or Tennessee team with his arm alone.

I see no problem with playing two QBs with totally different styles. Teams have been whipping Kentucky that way for years.

Boom, catman that's why loserville won their bowl
game. The Jackson kid is terrific.

It's also why Clemson blasted OK in the bowl game.

I'd love to see them get this kid. With our new
OC we may have a good chance to get him.

I agree, it wouldn't hurt to have an experienced QB sign with the Cats!

It's time we get a quarterback with quickness, speed, and a good arm.

WHo was the last QB we had like that. We had Cobb, but he had no one to throw the ball too!

Cobb was a star, but he didn't have a great arm. I am not sure if Kentucky has ever had that type of QB, that had the arm and the quickness. At least not in the modern era.

Cobb was good no doubt about that but was not a full time quarterback. He was versatile athlete that played numerous positions which included wide receiver, punt an kick-off returner, and some at quarterback too. He won numerous award for his all around talent.

We stole him out of Tennessee and was one of our better players at Kentucky but only played his freshman and sophomore seasons for the Cats. He started in 20 games for the Cats.

Tim Counch (spelling is way off) was a pretty good one. Not sure how quick he was. If not for injuries I think he would have had a long and successful NFL career.

Cobb is closing in on 4000 receiving yards for the Packers and has scored 35 touchdowns for them.

Couch didn't really have a set of legs under him. He was pretty much a pocket style passer!

Oh, Couch played fantastic football, he was just a pocket passer and not known to be a scrambler!

And yet, Curry wanted to run the option with Couch!

When you have a quick release you don't need to scramble.

MH Cobb was a wide receiver and not a quarterback.

Couch was the first pick in the 1999 draft and was drafted by the Cleveland Browns.

Ricky Williams the Heisman Winner when Couch finished 4th ended up being drafted 5th pick in the same draft that Couch was the first pick. Justice was served. [Smile]
