The recent departures of Patrick Towles and Reese Phillips have left Kentucky thin at quarterback for the 2016 season, and the Wildcats are looking for immediate help at the position.
Junior-college quarterback Stephen Johnson II announced Thursday that he has received a scholarship offer from UK. He is expected to take an official visit to Lexington later this month.
Johnson — a 6-foot-3, 200-pound prospect from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. — is ranked by 247Sports as a three-star recruit and the No. 5 dual-threat QB in the juco ranks for 2016.
He just wrapped up his sophomore season with College of the Desert (Calif.) after starting his college football career at Grambling State. Johnson completed 257 of 441 passes (58.3 percent) for 3,210 yards with 34 touchdowns and seven interceptions this past season. He also ran 126 times for 429 yards and eight touchdowns for College of the Desert, which finished the season with a 6-4 record.
Sophomore Drew Barker and true freshman Gunnar Hoak, who will participate in spring practice with the Wildcats, are currently the only scholarship quarterbacks on UK’s roster for 2016. Walk-on sophomore Davis Mattingly is also on the team.
Johnson, who plans to enroll at a four-year college for the spring semester, also has scholarship offers from Arkansas State, Eastern Michigan and Hawaii.

Playing in the SEC has to be a dream for a lot of football players. It's the premier conference in the country.

We are 6-2 in bowl games so far and have had teams in most all of the biggest bowls.

SEC now 8-2 in Bowl games!

The 8th victory set a record for bowl wins by a conference.

Is it any wonder we struggle year in and year out to become bowl eligible facing the teams we face week in and week out?

We have had our work cut out for a long time but until we get better recruits we will always be at or near the bottom of the SEC.

We have to recruit better, that's what could get us back to where we want to be.
