Each of the 16 Kentucky football seniors scheduled to be honored Saturday before their final game at Kroger Field can tell a story about the winding path that brought them to this point.
For some, like nose guard Tymere Dubose or linebacker Jordan Jones, it is maturing enough to put embarrassing off-the-field incidents that threatened to derail their careers as underclassmen behind them. Safety Darius West's story is one of perseverance after overcoming multiple significant leg injuries. Cornerbacks Derrick Baity and Chris Westry can tell of the pressure that can come with an early impact and learning to bounce back from disappointment.
But for seniors Josh Allen, C.J. Conrad and Mike Edwards, Saturday’s Senior Day ceremony will represent a rare opportunity to further prove a difficult decision made was the right one just less than a year after all three players elected not to enter the NFL draft as juniors. "That really means a lot to them first and foremost because they sacrificed so much to come back and improve themselves," UK coach Mark Stoops said. "... It’s also good for the program and the younger guys to see these guys do it one way and have some success."
