I've really been hard on coach, but I'm glad he's staying.

My biggest pet peeve was not throwing 5-10 yard passes to the future pro tight end, giving the QB some confidence. Didn't see the progression of Wilson. Yes, they won. But next season, there is no Snell. Wilson will have to throw more.
But, when it comes down to it, they won 10 games.
If Terry Wilson makes a big jump next season, Kentucky could have a more wide open offense, and the RBs won't be facing a D that knows they can load the box against the run.
Gran was pass happy at Cincy, but he didn't have a RB like Snell. We could see a more balanced attack, next season. Go Cats! [ 01-11-2019, 01:26 AM: Message edited by: boomdaddy ]

Two thoughts on this:
(1) It is remarkable that Gran would turn down such a salary AND the chance to run the offense for one of college footballs elite programs. That says volumes about what Gran thinks of the future at UK.
(2) If Kirby Smart thinks Gran is that good, why are we constantly grumbling and complaining about play calling, playing it safe, etc? Gran proved himself at Cincinnati, was just validated by being offered a prestigious position at Georgia, and developed an amazingly effective offense with sub-par talent at UK. I think he really is one of the best OCs out there.

Pretty simple explanation Tip. All of us coaches here on The Cats Domain know a whole lot more about football and basketball than those clowns who get paid to coach. Far as I know, the coaches in the other sports know their stuff.

Did Jim Chaney leave Georgia? I guess I didn't realize that. He is an offensive genius. He was Joe Tiller's offensive coordinator and receivers coach when my brother-in-law played at Purdue. Crazy smart offensive mind.
EDIT: I can see why Chaney left UGA. UT is paying him $4.8MM to be the offensive coordinator. Wow. he was making $950k at UGA. [ 01-12-2019, 04:16 PM: Message edited by: Trey Ball ]
-------------------- Wife's Mad. Told me we never talk anymore. And just last nite while watching super bowl told her 2 or 3 times to get me a coke and popcorn. Also told her not to forget to take out trash in the morning. Ain't that something. Also told me I was too indecisive. Can't figure out what to do about that. One nice thing I guess. She called me a pro crastinator. Don't know what a crastinator is but I guess I'm a good one for her to call me a pro. Gonna wait til tomorrow to look that up though. I love her but somrtimes can't help but thinking I should have told uncle Junior to keep his coon hound pup and stevens double barrel and also his youngest daughter.

I guess Gran really showed his coaching acumen by winning 10 games with a qb who isn’t very accurate. He knew Snell was the key to our offense and he stuck with the game plan. We’ll need all of his coaching smarts to be a potent offense next year. I still believe we’ll be a pretty good offense, but it’s going to be tough not having Benny. I’m glad he stayed.
